McConnell made it clear that the Republican Party opposes tax increases to pay for infrastructure programs.
U.S. President Joe Biden intends to launch a massive infrastructure program and cover some of the costs through tax increases. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear Tuesday (16) that no Republicans would support a tax increase to pay for the infrastructure plan.
The White House is studying open-source methods to pay for the infrastructure plan, including long-term economic stimulus projects, raising taxes on businesses and individuals with annual incomes of $400,000 (about HK$3.12 million), property taxes, offshore corporate profits taxes, and revoking some of the tax cuts implemented by former President Trump. McConnell pointed out that no Republicans would support any tax increase program to pay for Biden’s infrastructure ideas, criticizing the infrastructure program as if the Trojan horse used in the Trojan Horse Massacre, which is hidden in the tax increase policy.
White House spokesman Pusaki said Biden believes the proposal will be cross-party support and expects to seek bipartisan support through continued dialogue. At present, the Democratic Party controls the House and Senate, if the Republican Party does not approve of the infrastructure program, the Democratic Party can still use the earlier passage of the $1.9 trillion bailout case “budget mediation” process, with a simple majority to pass the infrastructure plan, so that you do not have to fight for Republican consensus.
