Taiwan’s submarine ship national “red zone” equipment to obtain the United States export license

Taiwan‘s submarine national key equipment has now obtained the United States export license. Taiwan’s top military officials revealed that the “red zone” equipment includes combat systems, auxiliary systems and sonar systems.

Taiwan media reported that Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-ching confirmed in the Legislative Yuan on Tuesday (March 16) that the U.S. export license has been granted. He said, “So far it’s all agreed, the export permits we have all been obtained.”

He also said that the term process will go according to the procedures, can not pack a ticket when the goods will arrive, will be in accordance with the law, according to the procedures, gradually completed.

After four years of planning and preparation, Taiwan’s submarine national construction project officially began in November 2020, and will be built by Taiwan’s Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Navy and Taiwan Shipbuilding (Taiwan International Shipbuilding Corporation).

The parts required for the national construction of submarines are divided into three categories: red zone, yellow zone and green zone. The “red zone” equipment refers to the technology that Taiwan is not capable of developing and needs to seek assistance from outside. This type of technology includes integrated combat systems, digital sonar, diesel mainframe, torpedoes, missile systems and so on.

The company’s main goal is to provide a comprehensive range of products and services to the public.

It is expected that Taiwan’s first state-built submarine will be launched in 2025, followed by the construction of seven other ships to replace the submarines that have been in service for decades.
