House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
On Monday (15), House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called on the Defense Department to stop the “politicization of the military.
McCarthy tweeted, “Military personnel in uniform recently criticized an ordinary citizen for exercising his First Amendment rights. And today, a Democratic congressman used soldiers to go after a Republican in a political stunt.”
McCarthy named Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin (R-Texas), then added, “This sets a dangerous precedent. It has to stop now.”
The military is prohibited from getting involved in politics while in uniform. But several military figures have recently criticized Tucker Carlson, a prominent Fox News host. Carlson has previously criticized the military for focusing its efforts on getting women into the military, and he believes the military would be better off spending more Time fighting opponents like the Chinese Communist Party.
In addition, on Monday, Rep. Michael F.Q. San Nicolas, D-Guam, brought members of the National Guard in uniform to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (D-Ga.) office for a proposed confrontation with her. Greene reportedly implied last month that Guam is not part of the United States.
Greene was not in her office at the time, but San Nicolas asked a staffer to talk to National Guard personnel. So the staffer did so.
The Pentagon declined to respond directly to McCarthy. The Defense Department’s inspector general declined to say whether the Defense Department is investigating either side.
“It is time for our amazing men and women in the National Guard to come Home from Washington, D.C., and be reunited with their families,” Green said via email. “Democrats must stop using them as political theater on Capitol Hill. It is a disgrace to Democrats to disrespect our troops.”
Other members of Congress have also raised questions about the military’s recent actions, including the release of a press release by the military. Critics say this press release misinterprets Carlson’s words.
The Pentagon alleges that Carlson “used his show to belittle the contributions of women in the military and to say that the Chinese Communist military is catching up to the U.S. military because it does not allow women to serve at the rate allowed in the United States.
Carlson took aim at President Joe Biden in his latest show. Joe Biden’s talk of designing military flight suits and relaxing hair restrictions in order to make women feel safe and respected in the military.
“This is a mockery of the U.S. military. While China’s military is becoming more masculine by forming the world’s largest navy, our military needs to become more feminine, as Joe Biden said. Whatever feminization means, the man and woman (distinction) no longer exists. The bottom line is that it (feminization) is out of control and the Pentagon is heading down that path.” Carlson said.
The Pentagon press secretary, a senior official from the Space Force (Space Force) and multiple other military personnel, all fired back at Carlson. Defense Secretary Austin also expressed disdain for Carlson’s comments through a spokesman.
The U.S. Marine Corps also joined in the attacks on Carlson, using derogatory rhetoric against him in tweets.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said he had requested a meeting with the head of the Marine Corps after the Corps made insulting remarks about Carlson.
The Marine Corps later deleted the tweets.
In a letter, Cruz told Defense Secretary Austin he was “deeply troubled” by the situation and accused the Pentagon of launching a “systematic and public attack” on Carlson. macos/deepLFree.translatedWithDeepL.text
