Soros funds Myanmar protesters? 1 cadre of his foundation arrested

Reuters reported in the state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper that Myanmar authorities believe that billionaire Soros’ Open Society Foundation is suspected of funding a strike movement by anti-coup protesters and have arrested one of its officials and are looking for 11 others. The New Light of Myanmar reports.

The New Light of Myanmar reports that the Open Society Foundation converted $1.4 million into kyat without the consent of the government’s foreign exchange agency, and then “used the cash to fund a civil disobedience campaign” through several nongovernmental organizations.

The foundation’s website states that it is responsible for funding independent groups fighting for justice, democratic governance and human rights, and is the largest foundation of its kind in the world.
