The Chinese Communist Party passed the Decision of the National People’s Congress on Improving the Electoral System of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which focuses on amending the electoral system of Hong Kong, reducing even the little remaining democratic elections in Hong Kong to a Chinese Communist-style vase democracy, and completely extinguishing the hopes of the Hong Kong people for universal suffrage. This is another fundamental subversion of one country, two systems, after the National Security Law. But look at the Western world, where there has been little pushback. are those young people in Hong Kong who took to the streets in 2019, the vast majority of whom had fervent hopes for the West, now disappointed? I feel the same way. In the summer of 1989, in the face of the brutal massacre by the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing, the Western world did nothing but condemn! And many of the young students in the square at that Time were longing for the possibility that the U.S. military would come down from the sky. This, of course, was a daydream.
I wrote a long time ago to advise the young people of Hong Kong: they can resist tyranny with the greatest enthusiasm, but they must not have unrealistic illusions about the future. Hong Kong alone cannot resist the Chinese Communist Party’s perverse practices. The only Western world that can confront the Chinese Communist Party is unable to take care of itself. The fundamental reason is that the Western left is doing everything possible to destroy itself. The Chinese Communist Party believes in nothing but strength! In the past years, only Donald Trump has seen it most clearly among American presidents. On the Hong Kong issue, he did not specifically speak out in condemnation, but passed a series of specific laws to contain the CCP. If condemnation worked, the CCP would have been condemned to fall in 1989. Trump has been subjected to endless abuse by the Western mainstream media. These media are completely unaware that only a powerful United States can contain a power like the CCP and is the only option to protect Hong Kong.
In the last 20 years, the left has taken the leadership of society in the West, and “rule by virtue” has been practiced in both domestic and foreign affairs, from Barack Obama in the US to Angela Merkel in Germany. In terms of actual policy, they have been doing business with the Chinese Communist Party without restriction. This self-contradictory hypocrisy of the left is the root cause of the regression of human civilization in the last 20 years. Young people in Hong Kong can dislike the Western right, but never trust the Western left. The right is at least truthful, the left is all lip service and rhetoric. If you believe in the leftist philosophy, you will end up with a stronger and stronger Communist Party and a declining West.
Luo Dayou has a famous song “The Orphans of Asia”, which is the truest picture of Hong Kong today: The orphans of Asia are crying in the wind, no one wants to play the game of equality with you. The Chinese Communist Party can’t count on equality. And what about the West? History after 97 has proven that the West will never turn its back on the Chinese Communist Party for Hong Kong, and the 2019 protests may well be Hong Kong’s most desperate cry. It was a mass movement that has rarely been seen in human history that has shocked the world. But the Western left can’t even award a Nobel Peace Prize to Hong Kong. Fear of the Chinese Communist Party is the only thing that matters. What could be more ironic than this? The Western world, led by the United States, is on the road to the self-destruction of civilization. It is just very sad that we in the East, who believe in the concept of Western civilization, are also affected. Hong Kong is a victim of this historical process.
Freedom is the most important value
Of course, even in the darkest midnight there will be roosters that crow. There must be optimists who say: the future is bright. This is simply a plagiarism of the textbook spiritual triumph of the Chinese Communist Party. Life is only a few decades, and even if the world is democratic and free in 200 years (which is highly unlikely), Hong Kong people will have to live under dictatorship and autocracy for 20 years from now. It’s hard to know what it’s like. In the future, Hong Kong will almost certainly become a slave of China. It will be lucky to become a city like Shenzhen. Just look at how the CCP treats Xinjiang today.
In the eyes of the Communist Party, Hong Kong people and Uighurs share a common characteristic: if they are not of our race, their hearts will be different! This alone defies Xi Jinping‘s ambition for “great unification. The various policies and laws designed by the Chinese Communist Party for Hong Kong in the last two years have systematically deprived Hong Kong people of their freedom, and even the freedom to “not care about politics” has been attacked as “unpatriotic. And freedom itself is the most important value of Hong Kong and Western civilization. Without freedom, there is no soul.
