The number of new confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia (CCP) in the Philippines continues to climb, with new cases almost doubling in a single day in just four days from March 10 to 13.
The Central News Agency (CNA) reported that the Philippines reported 5,404 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19, Wuhan pneumonia, a Chinese communist virus) confirmed on Monday, with eight people dying, a seven-month high in the number of confirmed cases in a single day and the fourth highest since the outbreak in the Philippines.
It is worth noting that the number of confirmed cases in the Philippines was 2,886 in a single day five days ago, and has been climbing again and again over the past few days, with 3,749, 4,578 and 5,000 new cases diagnosed from the 11th to the 13th, respectively.
Philippine news site InterAksyon reported Monday that American epidemiologist Eric Liang Feigl-Ding shared a graph of the number of new diagnoses in the Philippines on Twitter on the 13th and wrote, “Worrying trend (that) happened in just 4 days? The Philippines is in trouble.”
As the outbreak continued to grow, Philippine presidential spokesman Harry Roque announced Monday that he had been diagnosed with the disease.
Roque said, “Because I will meet with the president today, I did the test yesterday and the results came out today.”
Roque said he was tested negative a day before he and President Rodrigo Duterte (Duterte) traveled to Negros Oriental to attend a ground-breaking ceremony on the 11th.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that the intensive care unit at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and the Wuhan pneumonia (CCP) beds at St. Luke’s Medical Center are full as the number of confirmed cases in Metro Manila climbs. The beds are full.
Abigail Binay, mayor of Makati, Metro Manila, told ANC News Channel, “In fact, as early as last week, our (hospital) bed occupancy rate was already at 100 percent.”
In addition, India has recorded 26,291 new cases in the past 24 hours, a new record for new cases in a single day in nearly three months, while last week also saw a 33 percent increase in new cases from the previous week, the largest increase since July last year.
