The Lost Generation! China’s youth unemployment rate exceeds 13%

According to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s population between the ages of 16 and 24 had an unemployment rate of 13.1 percent as of February this year, well above the national urban unemployment rate of 5.5 percent, and the figure is the same as the unemployment rate in the first quarter of last year. Experts say the data shows that companies do not appear to be eager to fill the labor gap as China’s economic recovery slows.

It is worth noting that official Communist Party data show that about 9.09 million students will enter the workforce this year, up from 8.74 million last year; however, the number of new urban jobs had fallen from 13.61 million in 2018 to 13.52 million in 2019 before the Epidemic. China, on the other hand, created only 11.86 million new urban jobs last year under the epidemic.
