Microsoft Corp. is now investigating China-related cyber hacking attacks on tens of thousands of its corporate customers in recent months, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The investigation revealed that a covert attack in early January was carried out by several China-linked hacking groups using Web-based tools before Microsoft sent software fixes to customers. The attacks have now infected computers running Microsoft Exchange e-mail around the world.
In the second wave of attacks in February, the tools used bore similarities to the attack code that Microsoft sent to antivirus companies and partners before Microsoft released a patch. Microsoft suspects that the cyberattacks may be linked to information leaks at the company or its partners.
