Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton vowed to use all available legal avenues to curb Biden‘s radical policies, defend the individual liberties of citizens against the massive power grabs of the Biden-led federal government, and ensure that they are held to the rule of law.
In an article on Fox News Saturday (March 13), Paxton laid out how Texas and other states should stand up to defend the rule of law and curb radical policies that harm the American people.
He said that given that both houses of Congress are currently controlled by Democrats with slim majorities, it is incumbent upon states to exercise their constitutional authority to provide the necessary checks and balances on the federal executive branch.
Paxton said James Madison, the fourth president of the United States, had said that the powers reserved to the states would extend to all matters, which concern the lives, liberties and property of the people, as well as the internal order, improvement and prosperity of the states.
Paxton said he is proud to lead the way for Texas and “provide the necessary checks and balances to the dangerous radical policies imposed on us by far-left Democrats.”
Paxton, who began his tenure as the state’s attorney general in 2015, has been at the forefront of defending constitutional rights and election integrity and standing as a bulwark against radical leftist policies that he says have hurt Texas.
In his article, Paxton cites the Biden Administration‘s radical policies. Within days of taking office, he said, Biden signed a string of executive orders that sought to weaken President Trump‘s (Trump) law-and-order policies. The most egregious of those orders was a Jan. 21, 2021, memo from the Department of Homeland Security that established a moratorium on the deportation of most illegal aliens, including those who have committed crimes in the United States.
Paxton said his office filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration two days after the DHS memo was issued, demanding an immediate halt to its dangerous and illegal freeze on deporting illegal immigrants. “This action by the (Biden) administration not only completely abandons its obligation to enforce federal law, but it endangers Texas, which has the largest southern border region in the country.”
After filing that lawsuit, Paxton said, the federal district court for the Southern District of Texas agreed with us and issued a temporary restraining order preventing the Biden administration from enforcing its order suspending deportations of illegal immigrants. Now, the court has extended that restraining order indefinitely and it is in effect nationwide.
“This is a major victory for the rule of law, national security and the safety of Texas citizens. And we’re not stopping there.” Paxton said.
Paxton said earlier this month he and 13 other state attorneys general co-signed a letter warning Biden “that we are reviewing legal options to counter his executive order to revoke the Keystone XL pipeline permit on Jan. 20, 2021.”
He said Biden’s divisive action not only “kills thousands of good-paying jobs, many of them union jobs, but will also allow hard-working American families to see their utility prices go up, as the Keystone XL pipeline would have increased Americans’ access to low-cost energy.
Paxton added that the Biden administration’s “attack on clean, low-cost domestic energy has provided a direct benefit to our geopolitical rivals like Russia and China (Communist Party of China), who (Russia and China) are laughing as they regain energy dominance four years after the United States embarked on a path to full energy independence.”
“In addition to the Biden administration’s aggressive actions on (illegal) immigration enforcement and domestic energy, they have threatened radical measures to restrict our Second Amendment rights. If these threats become reality, Texas will once again be at the forefront of defending the individual liberties of its citizens against the massive power grabs of the Biden-led federal government.” Paxton said.
He added that in the face of the Biden administration’s aggressive policies, “Texas will use all legal avenues necessary to compel the Biden administration to abide by the rule of law and will seek to block any executive action or legislation that does not.”
Paxton urged the states, “It is now the responsibility of the states to save this country from President Biden’s liberal and illegal wish list, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office stands ready to lead that task.”
Biden’s border policies have also worried border neighbors. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador revealed earlier this month his concern that Biden’s sanctuary policies are encouraging illegal immigration and fueling human trafficking at the border.
“They [illegal immigrants] see him [Biden] as the immigration president, so many feel they will arrive in the United States.” Ovrador said March 1.
“We need to work together to regulate the flow (of illegal immigrants).” He said.
A Mexican official familiar with the dynamics of illegal immigration told Reuters that organized crime has been changing its modus operandi “since the day Biden took office” and is now showing an “unprecedented” level of sophistication. Assessments show that this includes briefing clients on the latest immigration rules, using technology to hide from authorities and disguising smuggling operations as travel.
