A Canadian judge has denied huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou’s request to add testimonial evidence in her U.S. extradition case, according to a ruling released March 12.
The ruling also showed that the judge provisionally granted a request by Meng’s litigation team to add parts of an expert report into evidence, subject to further submissions on its relevance.
According to another report by the official media Global Times on the 11th, citing sources, the Chinese judiciary will soon hold a first trial in the case of Canadian citizens Michael Kovrig (Chinese name Kang Mingkai) and Michael Spavor for alleged crimes against China’s national security.
Outsiders noted that, a few days after Huanzhou reported the imminent trial of the two Canadians, U.S. Secretary of State John Blinken and National Security Advisor Sullivan will hold their first high-level meeting since U.S. President Joe Biden took office with Yang Jiechi, a member of the Chinese Communist Party‘s Political Bureau in charge of foreign affairs, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
