Poll: Trump’s support among Republicans has a record high

A new poll conducted by Fabrizio’s polling company shows that former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s support among Republicans has risen rather than fallen since he left office, with as many as 88 percent of Republican voters now approving of the job Trump is doing.

The poll was obtained by the U.S. media “The Hill” on Friday, March 12. The poll shows that although Trump has been out of office for 2 months, 81% of Republican voters applaud him and another 88% approve of the job Trump has done during his four years as president.

Fabrizio said in the poll that “President Trump still has tremendous influence in the Republican Party,” and part of the reason is that Trump has the overwhelming support of the Republican base voters.

The poll also shows that Republicans have a number of candidates in mind who have the potential to compete for the presidency in 2024, with Trump still at the top of the list, with 51 percent support. In addition, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who performed well at the Republican Political Action Conference (CPAC) this year, received 7 percentage points of support, and Texas Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) received 3 percent support.

A poll earlier this month showed DeSantis’ recent leap in support among Republicans to 53 percent, among other things because of his strong policies to fight the new coronavirus while refusing to shut down Florida’s economy.

Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence’s relationship with Trump is seen as fractured following the Jan. 6 riots on Capitol Hill in the nation’s capital. As a result, Pence, who was once highly regarded among Republicans, has seen a significant drop in his approval rating. The current poll shows that although Pence was also listed as a potential presidential candidate in 2024, his approval rating failed to break into double digits, at only 9 percent. The former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who once denounced Trump after the Capitol Hill incident, also received only 6 percent support.

The poll also shows that in the selection of potential Republican candidates excluding Trump, Pence, DeSantis and Cruz’s support has increased, at 19 percent, 17 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

The poll was conducted among 1,264 Republican voters and has a margin of error of 2.76 percentage points for the government.
