U.S. Poll: Nearly 40 Percent of Americans See China as Major Threat

The Ronald Reagon Institute (RRI) has released a poll showing that nearly 40% of Americans consider China to be the main threat to the United States.

The poll noted that more than 30% (37%) of Americans believe China is the country that poses the greatest threat to the U.S., compared to 21% in 2018, while the poll also reduced the percentage of Americans who view Russia as the greatest threat to the U.S. from 30% to 16%.

Respondents who hold these views, mostly Republican supporters, believe that North Korea comes in second (12%) and Iran third (10%), followed by Russia (6%), in terms of threat level. The opposite is true for Democrats, who see Russia as the main threat (28%) and China as the second (20%).

In addition, Americans have a negative view of the Chinese political system and the Chinese Communist Party, and express concern about human rights violations in China and hope that the United States will support the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.
