French Defense Minister Paley announced that France held its first military test in space. In the context of increasing international competition in space, France’s move is also to show the outside world that France has strength in military operations in space.
France has previously been invited by the U.S. military, under the command of the U.S. military to participate in military tests in space.
This Time, the military space test was conducted completely virtually, starting on March 8 and ending on March 12. The objective: to protect France and its allies in space, by bringing together the French military and relevant civil institutions. According to the plan, from now until 2025, the joint command center in space will be centralized in Toulouse, in the south of France.
According to reports, the French military simulated a scenario in which a third country with military capabilities in space is in military conflict with another country with which France has a military alliance, and that country sends a request for help to France. During the simulation experiment, more than 10,000 entities appeared in the space simulation and 18 major crises occurred at the same time, the opponent’s satellites were closing in on the French satellites, while some space debris that crossed the atmosphere could endanger civilian safety, the military had to both calculate and capture information and jam the enemy, destroying enemy satellites if necessary.
The military’s simulations are actually reported to be fairly close to reality, with a Russian satellite, in 2017, attempting to approach a French-Italian satellite for spy reconnaissance.
The United States in 2020 accused Russia of conducting tests in space to destroy artificial satellites. India, Russia, and China all currently have what it takes to destroy satellites in space from the ground.
