A man throws a fire bomb at the Chinese Embassy in Germany

The Chinese Embassy in Germany was attacked by a man in an arson attack on Wednesday morning, according to multiple German media reports. Berlin police have arrested the man.

According to police sources, a 42-year-old man threw multiple firebombs at the Chinese Embassy in Berlin’s Brücknerstrasse at around 6 a.m. Wednesday. The firebombs were thrown over the fence and smashed into pieces at the corner of the embassy wall. The embassy staff immediately extinguished the fire with fire extinguishers. Due to their quick intervention, the flames did not spread to the building. No one was injured in the incident.

Witnesses and security personnel detained the suspected arsonist at the intersection of Brückenstrasse. Police arrived and arrested him.

The alleged motive for the arson is not yet clear. However, police believe it was a politically motivated act, so further investigation will be conducted by the State Protection Service. Police have not released the man’s nationality.

After the arson incident, the German media took it very seriously. German weekly magazine Der Spiegel, RTL TV, Berliner Zeitung, Berliner Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Agence France-Presse all reported immediately on the same day.
