Anti-police violence spikes in New York, mayor’s wife instructs residents to take matters into their own hands

Violent crime has increased in New York City since the far left launched the “Defund Police” campaign last year. Recently, Chirlane McCray, the mayor’s wife, has encouraged people to take over the police force in response to the frequent attacks on the city’s Asian residents.

“As attacks on Asian American communities continue to occur, stand up for yourself when you witness your neighbors being attacked or harassed by hate violence. I know it’s frightening when you don’t know what to do or what to say, but you can learn.” , New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, McCray, tweeted Sunday (March 7).

To help New Yorkers learn to intervene in violence, McRae followed up with a tweet outlining how to de-escalate violent situations, specifically referring to the “5 D’s” method of “Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay and Direct” (Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay and Direct). Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct” (Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct).

  1. Distraction: Distract the abuser or harasser and try to interrupt them. For example, by asking “What Time is it?” or other questions.
  2. Delegate: Assess the risk and determine how best to intervene. If possible, find an influential person, tell them about the situation, and ask if they can help.
  3. Record: Support someone in crisis by recording or writing notes on your phone, but do not share the video without the victim’s consent. Record the date and time, and show the location if possible. Most importantly, keep a safe distance!
  4. Delay: Help survivors after an incident to show they are valued. Ask them how they are doing and find out if they need help, or if they need help filing a report.
  5. Direct: Respond directly to the aggressor or intervene in person.

Just last Wednesday, however, people in an Asian community in New York gathered to give a farewell to Zheng Yong, a Chinese-American man who was a husband and father, who was stabbed to death in an effort to help Chinese-American robbery victims in Brooklyn.

Police have arrested William Smith, 45, for Zheng Yong’s murder, but sources say at least two other accomplices are still at large.

Jung was a bus driver and the sole breadwinner of his Family, and the community set up a fundraiser for his two young children.

Nine months ago, McRae pushed her husband, Democratic Mayor Michael White, to cut police funding, according to The Daily Wire, a conservative news site.

Breitbart News reported on June 7, 2020, that White vowed to cut funding for the New York City Police Department (NYPD) even as violent crime soared. According to the New York Post, a week after the NYPD’s plainclothes anti-crime unit was disbanded on June 15, 2020, there were 28 shootings involving 38 victims in New York.

By June 23, 2020, shootings in New York City had spiked 358 percent over the same period the previous year. And the violence continues, with the New York Post reporting that New York saw a 75 percent increase in shootings in February of this year compared to the same period last year.
