In response to the controversy over New York Governor Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal and cover-up of the death toll of nursing Home residents infected with the disease, Republicans in the New York State House of Representatives introduced a resolution on the 8th to begin the legal process of impeaching Cuomo.
Republicans, state House Minority Leader Will Barclay (R-Texas) said on the 8th, “Today we are proposing a resolution because we believe the Time has come” for “one (scandal) after another (scandal) to erupt. Because of the Democratic majority in the New York State Assembly, Barclay acknowledged that Republicans could not push for a vote on impeachment, but said he would continue to focus on the controversial events related to Cuomo.
However, 20 Democratic state lawmakers, including State Assembly Majority Leader Crystal People Stokes (D-N.Y.), said they disagree with impeaching the governor first before the results of the investigation into State Attorney General Jen Lehigh are known, “to give Jen Lehigh the proper amount of time to complete the investigation.”
