The National Pulse published an exclusive report Monday that Biden‘s senior adviser Reynolds spoke at a Communist Party meeting with researchers indicted by the Justice Department.
MIT News reports that the White House announced on May 5 that Dr. Elisabeth Beck Reynolds, executive director of the MIT Industrial Performance Center (IPC), has accepted a senior position at the National Economic Council (NEC).
Reynolds will serve as special assistant to the president for manufacturing and economic development at the NEC.
The National Pulse reports that Biden’s latest NEC hire is an MIT researcher who spoke at a Communist government-backed conference alongside fellow professors recently indicted by the Justice Department for giving secret advice to Communist Party officials.
The conference was part of a broader link between MIT and Shanghai that included payment by the CCP (Yangpu) district government for technical advice and was hailed by bureaucrats as helping to achieve Xi Jinping‘s goals for technological development in the Chinese (Communist) state.
In addition to the Chinese Communist Party officials speaking at the conference, Chen Gang, the MIT researcher recently indicted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for receiving U.S. research funding while “promoting Chinese science and technology by providing advice and expertise – sometimes directly to Chinese government officials – and often in exchange for financial compensation development,” including lecturing.
The Justice Department alleges that since 2012, Chen Gang has served as an “overseas expert” for the Chinese Communist Party at the request of its New York consulate and has received approximately $29 million in foreign funding.
Reynolds, who spoke on “Innovation Systems: Building Regional Capacity to Address New Challenges,” also moderated a panel on “Innovation, Productivity and Competitiveness,” advising participants on the path to China’s economic growth.
One of the headlines in her 18-page slide deck described “China’s multiple paths to future economic growth.
An official media summary of the event also showed that conference speakers were advising Chinese technology companies and the Communist Party’s regional government.
“According to the district government, organizers hope local startups will be inspired by the presentations or find some valuable technology,…… Americans to provide guidance and advice to entrepreneurs and company officials based in Yangpu during the conference.”
What’s more, the Shanghai Municipal Government “signed an agreement with MIT to serve as a bridge between Yangpu-based companies and the MIT Global Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) to help companies find the right resources from the university’s five schools and 33 departments.”
The summary adds, “The Yangpu government has the ‘top level’ membership in the MIT program, while local businesses have the option to pay a membership fee and have a ‘second membership’ to seek help and advice from MIT professionals at any Time.”
Current areas of cooperation between CCP and MIT include “smart manufacturing, robotics, medical big data, urban infrastructure and transportation data analytics.”

The paper also shares praise from Yangpu District CCP Secretary Li Yueqi, who describes how MIT’s collaboration fits into Xi’s larger goal of development and “the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.”
