40 percent of the population vaccinated Israeli restaurants and bars back in business

The vaccination program was launched in Israel last December and so far 40% of the population, more than 3.7 million people, have completed two doses of the vaccine. 7, restaurants, bars and cafes are open to holders of the “green passport” who have been vaccinated.

The total population of Israel is about 9 million, nearly 5 million people received the first dose of vaccine, and so far more than 3.7 million people have completed two doses of Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine.

Israel launched a green passport program last month, allowing people who can prove completion of the vaccination and those who have recovered from the Chinese Communist Virus Disease (COVID-19), access to gyms, swimming holds and other facilities, but the number of people is limited.

The reopening of restaurants, bars and other services on the 7th was highly anticipated, as it represents the resumption of operations in services that are relevant to the daily lives of many Israelis.

In a video posted on Facebook by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he can be seen at a Jerusalem cafe with dessert saying, “We’re alive.”

At present, restaurants can only open at 75 percent of their capacity, with a maximum of 100 people, and each table must be 2 meters apart, with an empty seat reserved between two places, unless the guests are living together. Green passport holders are also allowed to order a drink at the bar, but are not yet allowed to chat with the stranger next door. Green passports are not required for dining in open-air seating.

Many students will also begin to return to school this week, and venues for events at hotels, sports facilities and places of worship are open to Green Passport holders, but restrictions remain.

Israelis who were stranded overseas due to the airport closure will also be allowed to return this week, with 1,000 people allowed to enter on the 7th.
