Wang Yi changes his wolfishness and expects China and Japan to support each other, says he is willing to provide Chinese vaccines to Olympic athletes

After former U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo recently called on the public that the U.S. government should boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference at the fourth session of the National People’s Congress today that China and Japan will hold the Olympics one after another, and both sides can and should support each other and share the opportunity to promote the development of Sino-Japanese relations, “Let’s focus on Tokyo this summer and meet in Beijing next year. Let’s focus on Tokyo this summer and meet in Beijing next year”; he even indicated that China is willing to provide vaccines to Olympic athletes.

China has joined the WHO New Vaccine Initiative, pledging to provide the first 10 million doses of vaccines to developing countries in urgent need, and has already provided vaccine aid to 69 developing countries in urgent need at no cost, as well as exporting vaccines to 43 countries, Wang said.

Wang Yi noted that China has responded to the UN’s call to donate vaccines to peacekeepers and is also willing to work with the IOC to provide vaccines to athletes preparing for the Olympic Games.

Wang Yi indicated that China will launch a Chinese version of the electronic document for international travel health certificates, which will enable mutual verification of information such as nucleic acid tests and vaccinations, with full protection of personal privacy, to help safe and orderly people-to-people exchanges.
