Migrants run to U.S.-Mexico border
On Saturday, March 6, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) wrote in a tweet. “Today, Texas launched ‘Operation Lone Star’ in response to the border crisis, as the state deployed National Guard, Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers, and air, land, and sea border policing assets to stave off the ability of Mexican drug gangs & human snakes to transport drugs & people into Texas. “
The crisis on our southern border continues to escalate due to the Biden administration’s refusal to secure the border and welcome illegal immigration policies,” he said in the statement. Texas supports legal immigration, but will not be complicit in the open borders policies that have led to a humane crisis in our state and endangered the lives of Texans. We will increase the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to respond to this crisis.”
The decision was finalized at a meeting last month between the governor and Civil Defense Services Director Col. Steve McCraw, where they discussed strategies to strengthen border security.
The decision comes on the heels of similar concerns expressed by Texas Sheriff A.J. Louderback, who said Americans will have to “pay a price” to address the escalating chaos along the southern border.
Louderback told the English-language Epoch Times, “For the first Time in U.S. history, the federal government is retrieving asylum seekers who have been denied in the last year or so, and is reaching out to them to bring them back to the United States and encourage them to reapply for asylum status under the Biden Administration.”
Lauderback said, “The Trump administration simply said, ‘No, we’re going to have an immigration protection agreement …… we’re going to have an asylum process, but you’re going to have to stay in another country and reapply to the United States.’ Then things got in order.”
The Texas sheriff learned from Border Patrol agents that about 1,000 people have entered the United States each day for the past three weeks. This flow of illegal immigrants has had a widespread impact on the communities they pass through and settle in. The flow of people has made a fortune for human, weapons and drug smuggling rings. Many illegal immigrants have no Family in the United States and are eventually placed throughout the country with the help of Catholic Charities.
“They have no one to turn to, and many of them begin to hang out with criminal gangs,” Lauderback said. “So we’re bringing these people into this country in large numbers, and our borders are now open. Texans are going to pay for this, Americans are going to pay for this.”
