In a new study published in the journal Scientific Reports, part of the prestigious journal Nature, an international team of scientists studied samples taken by The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) from the gravel asteroid 25143, which showed the presence of water molecules and organic matter.
After testing the asteroid, the scientists concluded that asteroid 25143 had been violently impacted, resulting in extreme heating, dehydration and fragmentation, but after cooling, the asteroid gradually recovered and was replenished with cosmic dust, carbon and water-molecule-rich compounds from the meteorite that fell on its surface.
According to the researchers, these findings are quite exciting, as they provide a better understanding of the complex development of asteroids and the similarities between asteroids and the Earth over a long period of Time, helping to solve the mystery of the development of the Earth and the origin of Life.
