In Hebei, the Home of the Nie Shubin injustice case, another suspected case of Guo Zhanling has received attention from the rights and legal community in recent years. Guo’s Parents have struggled to seek justice for their son, but thankfully their son is still alive after a suspended death sentence; unfortunately, they have been suing for 11 years and still see no hope.
Guo Zhaling’s hometown is Longyao County, Xingtai, which is not too far from the home of Nie Shubin in the widely known injustice case, which is about 200 miles away. It took 21 years for Nie’s mother Zhang Huanzhi to get a not guilty verdict for her son, and Li Lianzhen hopes that one day she will be able to clear her son Guo Zhanling of any wrongdoing.
The company’s cousin, Li Moulei, had an altercation with Mamou on August 19, 2010 at a temple fair in South Wangdian Village, Longyao County, which led to a brawl.

Sun’s first statement of questioning on the day of the murder clearly states that “Fat Dun used a knife to stab Ma heard a knife at the root of the thigh. Fat Dun used a knife to stab twice, the first time may not be stabbed, the second time should be stabbed.” At that time, Sun was less than a meter away from them.
For the characteristics of fat Dun, she replied, “extra fat, about 1 meter 7 tall, long face, short hair, wearing a black t-shirt on top, empty shorts underneath, wearing slippers, about 20 years old, with pimples on the face.”

Li Lianzhen said his son Guo Zhanling is a tall, thin, particularly thin, 100 pounds up and down, “how can he be ‘fat dun’ it? Such an obvious mistake.”
In addition, villagers Zhang Yunlong is an eyewitness. He also testified to see the deceased allied brother Liu grabbed the murderer small fat man (Li Moujie) after saying, “You zap a knife and run, and do not go to the hospital to people to see.” Another large fat man (Li Moulei) took a brick to threaten Liu, he will be Li Moujie let go.

Li Lianzhen searched all over Longyao County Procuratorate, the Public Security Bureau, the Political and Legal Affairs Commission, the county party committee, the National People’s Congress and other departments, asking for identification of her son’s injuries.
In May 2011, Li Lianzhen and others went to the Longyao County Public Security Bureau to pull a banner and all six members of the Family were arrested and detained, and Li Lianzhen was detained for 10 days with a head injury.
On June 15, 2011, the Xingtai City Intermediate Court handed down a first instance verdict, sentencing him to death with a two-year stay of execution, and on September 13, 2011, the Hebei Provincial High Court rejected the appeal and upheld the original sentence.
Bloodstain DNA identification report was concealed
Another key piece of evidence in the case was a bloodstain DNA identification report. After Guo Zhanling was sentenced, a kind staff member of the prosecutor’s office informed him that a bloodstain DNA identification report had not been filed for Li Moujie’s blood coat.
Li Lianzhen kept suing, and a “kind leader” asked about it, before the Longyao County Procuratorate agreed to urge the Longyao County Public Security Bureau to provide this “key evidence” to the lawyers.

It is noteworthy that this Appraisal, issued on November 18, 2010, was ignored by the Xingtai Public Security Bureau, which brought the case to the Xingtai City Procuratorate on November 26. In the first and second trial of Guo Zhanling’s case, the bloodstain DNA identification report continues to be concealed.
In an interview with Look News Knews, lawyer Xu Xin said, “This new evidence alone is enough to initiate a retrial and overturn the original verdict.”
According to land media reports, Xu Xin, a well-known legal scholar and professor at Beijing Institute of Technology, represented the legal aid case in 2016 and was included in the Innocence Project because of the seriousness of the grievance and the possibility of a resolution. But unfortunately the case was never initiated for retrial.
Xu Xin and other lawyers formed a team of lawyers. Their research concluded that this case is a typical wrongful death case, which is due to the police and prosecutors in Xingtai, Hebei Province, who have been hiding and destroying key evidence of Guo Zhanying’s innocence in a big way. The real culprit is someone else. The case should have been immediately retried and Guo Zhanling’s innocence changed. But this evidence was never admitted.
Li Lianzhen said the evidence of Guo Zhanying’s innocence was drawn out and the Longyao County Public Security Bureau hid the evidence.
“People have connections, the trust of the Longyao County Public Security Bureau Director Zhang Wujun and the Deputy Procurator General Zhang Yongchun, manufactured unjust cases, in order to frankly protect the true culprit. They are relatives.” She said, “I sued to which, their relationship to find which, has been dragging for so many years.”
The court did not accept no choice
In April 2012, the Hebei Provincial High Court rejected Guo Zhanling’s complaint. 2013, the Hebei Provincial Procuratorate did not submit to the Supreme Prosecutor’s protest.
On December 1, 2016, the Supreme Court issued a letter of transfer to the Hebei Provincial High Court, the transfer review had let Li Lianzhen see a glimpse of opportunity. But 2017 the Supreme Court’s notice shows that, after review, their complaints do not meet the conditions for a new trial, decided not to re-trial notice. Lawyers believe that this administrative act is really a job violation or job crime.

In 2017, Li Lianzhen sued Zhang Wujun, deputy director of the Longyao County Public Security Bureau, and others for extorting confessions through torture and concealing evidence, but still no case was filed.
Li Lianzhen asked for the interrogation video of the Public Security Bureau. Guo Zhanling took the first statement for 2 hours and 45 minutes, but the police only pulled out 37 minutes and 40 seconds and two clips.

Li Lianzhen said, “Guo Zhanling is still in prison and has not admitted his guilt. They tried everything to get me to persuade him to confess, saying that after confessing to the crime and reducing his sentence, he would be able to get out in a few years. Like this no guilty plea will never get out. My son doesn’t ask for a reduced sentence, he asks for an acquittal, he didn’t kill anyone.”
She revealed, “In September and October 2017, people from the Xingtai Central Court talked to me and told me not to sue, to stop for 2 years, and they paid 200,000. They all know it’s a wrongful death case. Give me 2 million I do not even want, I want to be just according to the law, want evidence.”
Guo Zhanling pleaded not guilty and was tortured by the prison authorities many times to transfer prison
Talking about Guo Zhanling’s encounter in prison, Li Lianzhen couldn’t help but say, “I suffered too much!”
Guo Zhanling was initially in Cangzhou prison, where she was not allowed to be seen for the first six months because she did not admit her guilt and was beaten and bruised all over her body. Later, Li Lianzhen begged, a captain allowed to meet, saying to her, “Your son Guo Zhanling disobeyed, you persuade your son.”
Li Lianzhen agreed. “I did not expect that they transferred a carload of prison guards to come, the prisoners carried my son out, his body is hot, can not move. I died in this Life, the next life will never forget the words of the first captain: your son’s body is meat, raw iron I told him to turn into water!”
“And after three months, my son was cured to suffer torture, but the wrists are cut. The prison counter said Guo Zhaling to transfer prison, threatening the captain. Guo Zhanling struggling helplessly inside, he dared to threaten the captain? The son was tortured inside, that is, to see your meat hard, or their means hard.”
Li Lianzhen later wrote to the Ministry of Justice to complain, and later Guo Zhanling was transferred to Hengshui prison. “Last year the Xingtai Procuratorate said it wanted to see the person Guo Zhanling to ask about the torture to extract confessions. The Epidemic does not allow family members to see, this when my son was transferred to a few prisons, and then where I do not know, can not be contacted.”
“I have been is to sue, live to see, die to see the body. He was in Hengshui prison why there is no trace, and later learned and transferred back to Cangzhou, I am more worried. I just keep suing, and transferred to Baoding prison.”
Eleven years of persecution and being followed
Li Lianzhen said that Guo Zhanling was only 19 years old when she entered the prison and was tortured inside, and the two of them were also tortured outside, persecuted and stalked.
“I am a rural person, and in 2018, they chipped the crops in my land, smashed the equipment for watering the land, and dunked the locks on the doors of my house with glue. I called to report the case and no one cracked the case, saying there was no evidence.”
When I went to Beijing to petition, I was followed by unidentified people.
“The first few years there is no place to live to sue, living in a bridge hole, living on the road, his father’s legs have not worked, varicose veins are too strong, had surgery, fell sequelae; I have internal rheumatism, pain all over the body, so I have to insist, my son is in prison suffering from injustice, there is no way.” She said.
Except for the “two sessions” or action at home for a few days, they never stop petitioning, suing, looking for the high court, looking for the high prosecution, reflecting to various departments.
“I do not have a little way, only to turn to the attention of the people of justice, to find out the case of Guo Zhanling,” said Li Lianzhen, his demand is very simple, is to ask for evidence to. “Take out the evidence of Guo Zhanling’s crime, as long as there is evidence, I will fill in the agreement not to sue. I hold the evidence of Guo Zhanling’s innocence in my hand, and ask for a case to be filed, re-examined and held in open court. But I demand useless ah, I am a common man!”
