On March 4, 47 relatives and comrades of the imprisoned pro-democracy camp met with reporters outside the court.
The 600,000 Hong Kong people participated in the Legislative Council primary election, but the regime’s vicious hatred and frenzied reprisals were met with 47 people who participated in or organized the primary election being charged under the National Security Law. After four days and three nights of “marathon” trial, all of them were finally returned to scabbard. In addition to the 47 political prisoners themselves, their families and friends, their supporters outside the courtroom, and the supporters of democracy in Hong Kong suffered from the unjust trial. In the face of a CCP-initiated coup d’état that overturned the people’s choice, they wiped away their tears and looked for hope amidst the despair of endless repression.
On March 4, as the four-day trial was coming to an end, when 15 defendants were granted bail by Judge So Wai-tak, the president and designated judge under the National Security Law, the Hong Kong government’s Department of Justice immediately filed a review, meaning that all 47 defendants had to return to scabbard that day, and none of them could be reunited with their families. The moment the tiny hope of seeing their families disappeared, Elsa, the foster mother of the defendant social worker Lu Zhiheng, became emotional and ran out of the courtroom, crying and screaming, while telling reporters: “All of them can’t be released”. She shouted “the rule of law is dead”, after kneeling on the ground and crying, to be supported and comforted by bystanders.
On the evening of March 4, at 8:00 pm, Elsa, the foster mother of the accused social worker #Lu Zhiheng, rushed out of the courtroom after hearing of the failed bail, kneeling on the ground and bawling “the rule of law in Hong Kong is dead!
The 47 political prisoners’ families and close friends went through the ordeal of the four-day trial, and the pain of that moment is unimaginable to outsiders. But in the face of the longer days ahead, they wiped away their tears and continued to voice their complaints against tyranny on behalf of their loved ones. Some of the Family members, relatives and friends were interviewed outside the courtroom and their words were recorded in the Hong Kong media such as “Standpoint News”, which were very touching.
The Communist Party will frame the faithful and the good to go to hell
Lu Zhiheng’s adoptive mother Elsa said: “I want to tell the Communists that what you did was wrong! One day you will go to hell, and you will be burned with living fire. When God comes back, he judges, and if you do not repent and confess your sins, you will surely receive retribution for all the people who framed a group of our faithful people in Hong Kong.”
“These 47 people, all of them are for us in Hong Kong. This regime has screwed up our Hong Kong and made it very corrupt. We will not let it get away with it, we will continue to persevere and will do what is the truth. We, the people, uphold the loving and righteousness of God, and they, the evil people, will definitely get their comeuppance ……”
For her adopted son, Ji-Heng Lu, Elsa encouraged, “Hang in there, God is with you. We are Christians, we are meant to carry the cross and have the spirit of sacrifice, so we are not afraid.” “Of course it hurts me so much, even though he is not my own, because I have brought him up for more than 10 years, he has been so much abused as a child… my husband, I taught him well, he is a good young man, with love and seeking justice, I am proud of him.”
“Now why we dislike mainland China (government) so much, we dislike those people, it’s because inside the system in mainland China, it’s just bad quality, the dark side of people is all exposed… we have a good system in Hong Kong, we can present the goodness of people very well, we have to pursue this thing. Although we all know that there are also good people in mainland China, their beauty and goodness is very good, but it is not enough, we must keep it in Hong Kong, to pass on the beauty and goodness that we Hong Kong people, this system gives us.”
Chan Ho-hwan: A coup that subverts the people’s choice
Chan Ho-hwan, a comrade of former convener of the FSD, Sham Tze Kit, and the current convener of the FSD, said, “This government, it has simply lost its humanity. The trial in these few days is torturing all the defendants, their families and friends, and then torturing Hong Kong people who are fighting for democracy. However, we call on everyone not to give up the fight for democracy and freedom, this is our bottom line. Just like when the defendants left the courtroom, they shouted, ‘Go Hong Kong people, hang in there,’ and I hope we all do.”
“From the arrest of pro-democracy leaders under the National Security Law to the change of the electoral system today, this is a coup d’etat, a subversion of the people’s choice.” “These days the defendants are feeling encouraged through the newspapers and the news to see people lining up in the early morning to support solidarity with them.”
The legal process is like a conspiracy to play out a system that is completely distorted and upside down
The bail conditions are already very harsh and demanding, basically the defendants, the political prisoners have to comply with these bail conditions, in fact they are like ‘social death’, they don’t exist in the public sphere at all… What is the regime afraid of? What is the regime afraid of? Afraid that the dead will endanger national security?”
“All these days of so-called court proceedings, I think it’s a conspiracy to put on a show. I listened to all the speeches of the barristers, and I thought they made sense, and I prepared them carefully, but what was the result? ⋯⋯… everyone hold on, there is nothing to say, we agreed to hold on to their own positions, hold on to the people around them.”
Former Legislative Council member, “Long Hair” Leung Kwok Hung’s new wife Chan Po Ying said: “Today’s trial results are not unexpected, is expected. Many media friends asked me a few days ago if I was optimistic, and I said no. In fact, it is also true. Because we know that now after the legislation of the National Security Law, the whole judicial system of Hong Kong has been completely distorted and turned upside down.”
“This Time the crime, the Department of Justice to provide the material is not enough, the material is very weak, but, to make to the defendant also scabbard three months, is very unreasonable, is completely disproportionate, harsh ruling … now the judicial system, under the national security law, completely without the protection of speech, completely without.”
In addition to sadness and anger, we must be strong
Shum Aohui’s wife Yu Si Lang said: “Shum Aohui’s family although psychologically prepared, but still very sad, we will appeal the decision on bail … police arrested a few months early, 47 people brought to court for trial, 4 days since the trial, each of their relatives to attend the hearing, but can not enter the courtroom to see. Although it is of great public interest, the case is still not allowed to be reported, even outside the courtroom television is not broadcast, the information is very poor circulation, people suspect that the National Security Law related cases will develop to a secret trial.”
“It is very unreasonable, disproportionate and unfair to ask the defendant to be remanded in custody for 3 months when the police arrested him early. Finally, I call on everyone to continue to support the 47 people, Hong Kong people cheer!”
Chu Caity’s wife, Au Pei Fan, said, “This case is an important case to change the politics of Hong Kong, the status quo of Hong Kong, I hope that the world and Hong Kong people continue to pay attention. As family members, in addition to sadness, anger, we have to be strong … we have to be in the same boat, also hope to get the support of Hong Kong people, many thanks to everyone.”
