Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks at CPAC conference on Feb. 28, 2021
On March 5, former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a statement through his 45th president’s office, blasting the Biden administration’s immigration policies for making border security completely out of control. The White House responded.
The following is a translation of the full text of Trump’s statement.
Thanks to Biden’s disastrous leadership, our borders are now completely out of control. The Biden Administration has disdained, demeaned and ridiculed our great Border Patrol and ICE agents. The massive invasion of illegal immigrants into our country is happening every hour and getting worse by the minute. Many have criminal records and many are infected and spreading COVID.19 Internal law enforcement has been shut down and criminals once swiftly removed by their own government are now being released back onto the streets where they can again commit heinous and violent crimes. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are desperate to deport these convicted criminals, but Biden will not let them do so.
The rising tsunami (of illegal immigrants) at the border is overwhelming local communities, depleting budgets, overcrowding hospitals and taking jobs away from American workers with legal status. By the Time I left office, the United States had achieved the most secure border in its history. Under Biden, soon things will be worse, more dangerous and more out of control than ever before. He has violated the oath of office he took to uphold the Constitution and enforce the law.
Our southern border has never been more secure than it is now, and more importantly, what is about to happen (is even scarier). Now that Biden has implemented a “catch and release” policy across the United States, illegal immigrants from every corner of the world will reach our borders and never be deported again. Unless those who cross the border illegally are removed quickly, you will never have a secure border.
I have had a good relationship with Mexico and its wonderful president, but due to the gross incompetence and radicalism of the current head (meaning Biden), that is all in the past. The Stay in Mexico Policy was great, but Biden immediately abandoned it, perhaps because it worked so well. Likewise, our Safe Third Agreements in Central America were so successful that Biden foolishly abandoned them as well. We stopped paying them hundreds of millions of dollars and built good relationships to make bilateral countries more secure. We put strong rules and procedures in place to stop smuggling and human trafficking, but the Biden administration abandoned strategies that had proven effective and replaced them with allowing smugglers and traffickers to effectively control our borders.
Despite years of litigation and political delays by Democrats, the border wall is nearly complete and could be built just as quickly. Doing so will save thousands of lives.
The Biden administration must act now to end the border nightmare they have brought to America. Illegal immigration, crime and the Chinese Communist virus must be kept out!
White House Response
Fox News reports that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki responded to Trump’s statement on Friday.
She said, “We do not accept former President Trump’s advice on immigration policy, which has been not only inhumane, but ineffective for the past four years. We will take our own path forward, which includes treating children with humanity and respect and ensuring their safety as they cross the border.”
Biden has halted construction of the border wall and ended the Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP). In addition, he and congressional Democrats are already fighting for a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States.
One of the many agreements Biden terminated was the Migrant Protection Agreement, known as the “Stay in Mexico” policy, as part of an agreement not to impose tariffs on neighboring Mexico. He also terminated the Asylum Cooperation Agreement (ACA) with the Northern Triangle countries, which allowed immigrants to apply for asylum in those countries. The agreements are part of a series of policies the Trump Administration has adopted to end the immigration crisis in 2019.
Trump also blasted Biden’s border policies as a “self-inflicted humanitarian and national security disaster” in a Feb. 28 speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also called for a meeting with Biden on the border crisis Friday, while other Republicans sent a letter to Biden urging him to restore the Trump-era national security declaration.
