The French media authority, the French Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel, has announced that it has approved the application for a broadcasting license for China Global Television Network (CGTN), the Communist Party’s official media outlet. This means that CGTN will be able to continue broadcasting in Europe, including in the U.K. Earlier in February, CGTN’s license was revoked by Ofcom for being under the control of the Chinese Communist Party.
The French CSA’s decision effectively shows that, in a roundabout way, CGTN can still legally broadcast in Europe. The French human rights activist Hou Zhiming, a well-known French sinologist, expressed his confusion and criticized France for violating the European principle of solidarity and freedom of human rights. He also criticized France for allowing Chinese foreign media to enter France, while many French media are banned from entering China at all.
In response to the French Supreme Audiovisual Council’s decision to grant the official Chinese media China Global Television Network (CGTN) a license to broadcast not only in France, but also throughout Europe through France, the well-known French sinologist and human rights activist Hou Zhiming said today that she could not understand the French CSA’s decision.
Hou said the decision was a shock.
According to Hou, China Global Television Network (CGTN), which is known as CGTN, is broadcasting all over the world, and the French CSA is now allowing it to land in France, which is against the spirit of solidarity with a European country, and it is the UK that has just revoked the broadcasting rights of CGTN. China Universal Television Network is now thus able to enter France again and go all over Europe. According to Hou Zhiming’s criticism, the French CSA is allowing China Global Television Network to land in France, knowing that it is allowing a China that is currently accused of imprisoning Uyghurs, sexually assaulting women, forcing birth control on Uyghur women, and repressing Tibetans, to use a Chinese media conduit to promote their official narrative on these situations in Europe. Europe, on the other hand, does not have any possibility to impose sanctions.
According to Hou Zhiming, it was the Chinese network Global TV that showed the handcuffed Chinese confessing to their crimes, including those who should be respected as lawyers, and even foreigners such as the British Petter Huntly, the Swede Petter Darling, and those journalists and people working in China, who were also shown confessions by the Chinese network Global TV. In these scenes, these people are forced to read out documents of repentance and confess to crimes committed in China. And it is to such a station that the CSA has granted a license to allow the Chinese network to broadcast in France and in Europe.

Hou also denounced the fact that China’s Global TV network is allowed to broadcast in Europe, while we are banned by China.
According to the report, in light of the storm and controversy caused by the Chinese global television network CGTN, the French authority CSA has stressed in a press release that “the CSA will pay special attention to CGTN’s compliance with regulatory requirements”.
