1,600 illegal immigrants arrested in 3 days in an area of the Texas border

Recently, the chief agent of the Border Patrol in a Texas border sector said that more than 1,600 illegal immigrants were arrested in the area in three days.

“Agents in the Del Rio Sector (Del Rio Sector) made more than 1,600 arrests in three days!” Austin Skero, head of the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol, wrote on Twitter, “These arrests include over 25 smuggling cases, 2 criminal aliens, and are comprised primarily of single adults.”

Skero later added that Del Rio District agents detained a convicted rapist who had previously been deported.

“Our agents, over the weekend, arrested two more sex offenders, one of whom was convicted of third-degree rape in Kentucky,” he said in a press release Tuesday (March 2), “which is why it is critical for Border Patrol agents to identify all illegal aliens at the border “

Roman Gonzalez-Flores, 49, a Mexican citizen, was arrested after entering the U.S. illegally from Mexico. Officials later determined that he was convicted in 2004, sentenced to two years in prison and most recently deported in 2021, according to the agency.

Gonzalez-Flores now faces felony charges of illegal reentry after deportation and, as a convicted sex offender, he could face 20 years in prison.

The agency said agents have identified 56 illegal immigrants with prior sexual assault convictions since Oct. 1 of last year.

In a separate incident in California on Wednesday, Border Patrol agents and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that the 13 people killed in a semi-truck crash may have been illegal immigrants who had been smuggled into the country.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the accident victims and their families during this difficult Time,” El Centro Sector (El Centro Sector) Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino said at a news conference Wednesday.

He said agents believe the dead belonged to a larger group of illegal immigrants, estimated to be about 44, smuggled through a small hole in a fence near Calexico, a California city on the border adjacent to the Mexican city of Mexicali.

“Preliminary investigations of these vehicles indicate that they may be linked to the destruction of the aforementioned border fence,” Bovino added, “proving once and for all that human smugglers have no regard for human Life.”

He said at the press conference, “Those contemplating illegal border crossings should stop and think about the dangers that often end in tragedy; tragedies that, unfortunately, we, border patrol agents and first responders, are all too familiar with.”
