Communist Party of China’s 5G shows its fear again, users lose signal without warning

Recently, some mainland 5G users suddenly could not use the 5G network, and then were told that it was due to the upgrade of 5G base stations, and that they had to buy new phones on their own, causing them to cry “cheated”. The Chinese Communist Party continues to expand its 5G and other “new infrastructure” projects, but it continues to expose flaws and raise various hidden concerns.

Sichuan Ziyang cell phone user Mr. Wang bought a 5G cell phone at a local China Telecom business hall in mid-2020, spending more than 4,000 yuan, and was told at the Time that “5G base stations are already covered, so you can use the faster 5G network”, according to a March 2 report by the mainland’s Pengyang News.

However, since the beginning of this year, the phone has often failed to receive the local 5G signal and can only use 4G.

He asked China Telecom about the situation and learned that Sichuan Telecom had requested to upgrade all the original NSA-mode 5G base stations to SA-mode 5G base stations, and his phone was not compatible with the upgraded SA5G mode. The telecom company only provided the compensation plan of topping up the phone bill and suggested him to replace the phone by himself.

Mr. Wang bluntly said he was “cheated”. He questioned: when he bought the phone at China Telecom’s sales office, he was not told that the 5G base station would be upgraded in the near future; he did not receive any kind of notification after the base station upgrade.

China Telecom Ziyang business hall staff explained to Punch News on March 2 that Sichuan Province initially adopted the NSA network and started to switch to SA network one after another from December 25, 2020, after the change, the original NSA terminal customers will not be able to continue to use the 5G network and need to change to SA terminals.

The Chinese Communist Party’s high-profile advocacy of 5G has been frequently shown to be timid

During the 2020 Epidemic, the CCP proposed a “new infrastructure” involving 5G, artificial intelligence, data centers, and more. Shortly afterwards, the CCP said that China Mobile and China Telecom’s 5G subscribers exceeded 150 million in August 2020 and 200 million in October.

However, in November of the same year, the first anniversary of the commercialization of 5G packages by the three operators, the mainland exposed the news of users “being 5G”, which once became a hot search, triggering questions about the real data of 5G users on the mainland.

Data show that the first three quarters of 2020 China Mobile and China Telecom’s 5G users more than 170 million, but the first three quarters of the mainland 5G cell phone shipments is 108 million, plus the 2019 shipments a total of 122 million. In other words, there are at least close to 50 million so-called 5G users on the mainland who are not really using 5G.

In addition, most cell phone users on the mainland are still using 4G and 3G phones, but it is difficult to find 4G service entrances in the apps of the three major operators, while “5G packages” can be found everywhere. Some have taken 4G services offline, requiring users to apply for 4G only through offline business halls and telephone customer service.

In addition, some 5G users find it difficult to switch back to 4G once they have applied for 5G networks, and the cost of 5G networks on the mainland is high, exceeding 100 yuan per month.

China’s 5G base stations everywhere to build hidden worries

On February 23, Liu Liehong, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology of the Communist Party of China, said that more than 718,000 5G base stations have been built on the mainland, accounting for about 70% of the world’s total, 5G networks have covered all localities and cities nationwide, 5G terminal connections have exceeded 200 million, and the cumulative investment by basic telecom enterprises has exceeded 260 billion yuan.

New 5G base stations are still being built around the country this year. on March 3, Henan Province and Heilongjiang Province alone plan to build 50,000 and 18,000 new 5G base stations respectively in 2021, and Jiangxi Province plans to reach 70,000 in 2025.

However, in the international community, there have been early warnings from the US, Europe and other countries that the CCP is using 5G technology to monitor users. The United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Japan and many other countries have banned or restricted the use of huawei 5G equipment one after another.

Robert L. Strayer, deputy assistant secretary under the Trump administration, warned in 2019 that allowing Huawei and other Chinese companies access to 5G would allow the Chinese Communist Party to expand its surveillance in most parts of the world.

In addition, 5G base stations consume more than three times as much power as 4G base stations. The Communist Party’s “new infrastructure” comes at a time of economic downturn due to the epidemic and city closures, but there are “power outages” and “power restrictions” in many parts of the mainland.
