Reuters: India promises to provide preferential policies than China to attract Tesla to build a factory

India is ready to offer international electric vehicle maker giant tesla cheaper processing costs than China, but more favorable incentives to attract Tesla to build a factory in India, Indian Road Traffic and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari (Nitin Gadkari) told Reuters on the same day, Reuters reported on March 2.

It is reported that billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla registered a company in India a few weeks ago, indicating that Tesla’s plans to enter India could start as early as the middle of this year. Sources disclosed that Tesla’s India program will start with importing and selling its Model 3 electric cars.

Indian Transport Minister Gadkari stressed Tuesday that instead of assembling cars in India, Tesla should hire local Indian suppliers to produce all its products in India. The Indian government will ensure that when Tesla starts producing cars in India, its production costs will be the cheapest compared to the rest of the world, “even compared to China.”

India wants to push for local manufacturing capacity for electric cars, batteries and other components to reduce the cost of imports and curb pollution in major cities, the report said. But India faces a huge challenge to win Tesla’s production commitment. In particular, Tesla’s total sales in China last year have accounted for a third of the company’s global electric vehicle sales.
