China’s support for Myanmar’s military coup adds to Chinese crisis Another Chinese businessman in Myanmar seriously injured by violent siege

On February 19, 2021, the head of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, surnamed Tan, was violently attacked and seriously injured in Burma as a result of the anger of the Burmese people sparked by the Communist Party’s official support for the military coup. From a source

A Chinese businessman in Yangon is suspected to have had his store smashed and his personal safety threatened because of his high-profile advocacy of the Chinese Communist Party‘s caliber, and another overseas Chinese leader was seriously injured in an attack earlier. Some local Chinese said that the Chinese Embassy has no intention to help, worrying that the deterioration of the political situation will lead to a more dangerous situation for the Chinese.

According to Myanmar social media, a Chinese businessman surnamed Liu was attacked in Yangon, the largest city, after he was suspected of making a series of comments on microblogs in support of the military coup and criticizing Hong Kong people’s protests.

Mr. Wang, who knows the injured man, told the station that Liu was suspected of being attacked by a group of local Chinese on Sunday (Feb. 28). He said that because the Chinese government is believed to have supported the coup by the Burmese military, resulting in Chinese in Myanmar being hated, Liu’s comments following the official caliber of the Chinese Communist Party were translated into Burmese and spread on social media, immediately becoming a target. And there are many local Chinese who do not value what the military has done, and suspect that this is why they have taken action to teach Liu a lesson, thereby warning other Chinese not to stand against the Burmese people, so as not to bring greater danger to the Burmese Chinese.

Mr. Wang said: this, we just know, greeting is also relatively small. The first thing you need to do is to install this kind of monitoring at Home. 28th night, by a group of Burmese Chinese, to his store smashed up. Yesterday there were many people cursing, and some said they wanted to kill him. He also issued a little apology afterwards. We think this person has a brain problem, we also ask (in Myanmar) Chinese people can not publish, do not publish some speech it.

Mr. Wang also revealed that on the night of last month 19, after a Chinese-funded enterprise in Yangon Garment Industrial Park was vandalized, a Hunan Chamber of Commerce leader was also seriously injured in an attack on his way home. Even the identity of the perpetrator is not clear at the moment.

Mr. Wang said: the man’s surname is Tan, Hunan people. He is a director, I think. He should be quite serious now, the right eye orbital bone crushed, people with iron bars or rods knocked. May be injured to the Cornea, it may be blind. Now is not a curfew? He came back from somewhere that night and was smashed by people on the road when he was driving. People’s motorcycles caught up with them, before they hit.

Another Burmese Chinese, Mr. Chen, also told the station that the local Chinese are in a dire situation, but without any assistance, they fear the situation will deteriorate further.

Mr. Chen said: If you put yourself in this situation think about it, you are in this situation you have no pressure? Do you have any danger? We are Chinese in Myanmar, you think, if the situation really occurs, where can we go? We are already in deep water in Myanmar, who can we rely on? Who can help us? We can only rely on ourselves.

There are two schools of thought in the Burmese Chinese community. There are many Chinese like Mr. Chen who are deeply concerned about the dangers of their situation, but there is another school of thought that the deterioration of the Chinese situation has nothing to do with the Chinese Communist Party’s support for the military coup in Burma, but is the result of the incitement of Hong Kong and Taiwan independence. They are convinced of the CCP’s great outreach, although there is no sign of official willingness to provide assistance.

Our correspondent called the Chinese Communist Party’s embassy in Burma and the Consulate General in Mandalay several times respectively, but the calls have been unreachable. Since the coup in Burma, our correspondent has tried to contact the Chinese embassy and consulate in Burma several times, but has been unable to get through.

The Chinese Communist Party has been promoting patriotism in a high profile manner, but in both the New Guinea virus Epidemic and the current crisis in Myanmar, the Communist Party has no intention of allowing Chinese citizens in danger to return to their home countries, and instead has imposed strict rules to prevent people from returning to their home countries to escape the danger.
