According to Myanmar social media, a Chinese businessman surnamed Liu was attacked in Yangon, the largest city, after he was suspected of making a series of comments on microblogs in support of the military coup and criticizing Hong Kong people’s protests.
Mr. Wang, who knows the injured man, told the station that Liu was suspected of being attacked by a group of local Chinese on Sunday (Feb. 28). He said that because the Chinese government is believed to have supported the coup by the Burmese military, resulting in Chinese in Myanmar being hated, Liu’s comments following the official caliber of the Chinese Communist Party were translated into Burmese and spread on social media, immediately becoming a target.
