Chinese people bribed guards to escape quarantine to have fun in nightclubs in Cambodia, triggering the largest community infection of the Communist China virus (COVID-19) in the country. A few days ago the Cambodian Ministry of health informed that 35 of the 39 new confirmed cases in the country the previous day were related to the aforementioned community infection incident. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Cambodia to more than 300.
The Cambodian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday (Feb. 28) that there were 39 new confirmed cases of the CCP virus in the country on the 27th, including 24 Chinese, 6 Vietnamese and 9 Cambodians. Of these 39 cases, 35 are related to the “February 20 community infection incident”.
The outbreak in Cambodia has been relatively well controlled, and social Life in the country’s capital, Phnom Penh, has largely returned to normal. On Feb. 20, four Chinese who were under quarantine at a hotel bribed guards to escape the quarantine and go to a nightclub, leading to the largest outbreak of indigenous community infection in the region.
To date, Cambodia has a cumulative total of 805 confirmed cases of the CCP virus, 302 of which are related to the February 20 community outbreak.
Video footage of the Chinese woman leaving the quarantined hotel through a fire escape with a security guard captured by surveillance cameras at the incident site has reignited local anger.
In an interview with the Cambodia-China Times on Feb. 23, Cambodian Justice Ministry spokesman Kim Peace said the Cambodian judiciary will use Article 44 of the National Disaster Management Law to impose heavy penalties on those involved in spreading the Epidemic.
According to the information, article 44 of Cambodia’s National Disaster Management Law states that people who are aware of a risky situation that could cause a disaster but fail to immediately report the information to law enforcement agencies can be sentenced to one to six months in prison and fined 100,000 to 1 million Cambodian dollars.
Kim Heping said that intentionally hiding to avoid quarantine treatment after learning of a positive CCP virus test result, assisting a quarantined person to avoid quarantine, and having contact with a confirmed patient but intentionally withholding information can be considered to constitute these crimes.
On February 20, the official website of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia issued an “important reminder” that some Chinese citizens had recently left the quarantine hotel after arriving in Cambodia in violation of the law; and a few Chinese citizens in Cambodia deliberately hid to avoid quarantine treatment after learning that the test result was positive. The above behavior has seriously violated the relevant Cambodian government epidemic prevention regulations, and also suspected of violating the relevant local laws, calling on Chinese citizens in Cambodia to strictly comply with the Cambodian epidemic prevention regulations.
