Pence Publishes Article Criticizing Democratic Voting Reform Bill, Calls for Election Integrity as U.S. Imperative

Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence broke his silence since leaving office with an op-ed on March 3, joining a number of Republican lawmakers in opposing the voting reform bill introduced by Democrats that just passed the House of Representatives. He warned that the bill would “increase the chances of election fraud”.

According to CNN, Pence 3 in the form of a feature article, in the conservative Heritage Foundation (Heritage Foundation) “Daily Signal” (Daily Signal), at this Time, congressional Democrats are pushing election reform bill, will be during the 2020 election, many of the most controversial issues. including voter registration and voting procedures into federal law, requiring state legislation to legalize mail-in ballots with electronic voting, and more power for the Justice Department to run voting rights laws. The bill has been criticized by Republicans.

Pence began his article by writing, “In the wake of an election with major election irregularities and numerous officials who have set aside state election laws, I share the concerns of thousands of Americans about the integrity of the 2020 election.” He stated, “So when I chair the Joint Session of the Congressional Committee on Elections, I pledge to ensure that all objections raised under the Election Count Act receive a full hearing before Congress and the American people.”

Pence said that “the tragic events of Jan. 6, the worst of which was the loss of Life and violence at the U.S. Capitol, have also deprived the American people of a substantive discussion in Congress about the integrity of American elections.” He claimed that “many of the most troubling voting irregularities occurred in states that set aside laws enacted by state legislatures in favor of sweeping changes ordered by governors, secretaries of state and the courts.”

Pence states, “While lawmakers in many states have embarked on election reforms to restore public confidence in state elections, Congressional Democrats have unfortunately chosen to brush aside these valid concerns and reforms and engage in a bold attempt to nationalize elections in blatant disregard of the U.S. Constitution .”

In his article, Pence suggests that the bill is an unconstitutional power grab that will increase opportunities for election fraud, trample on the First Amendment, further erode public confidence in elections, and dilute the votes of legally eligible voters. He also said that the Democratic Party has set aside real election reform and ignored the Constitution to nationalize elections.

Pence also called out, “After a year in which our nation has endured a global Epidemic, economic hardship and a contentious election, now is not the time to further inflame passions and divisions, now is the time for our nation’s leaders to help America heal its wounds.”

Biden‘s White House, for its part, fully supported the bill, accusing Trump of doing everything he could to overturn the election results. The feature is Pence’s first public comment on the 2020 election since he left office on Jan. 20, with the exception of the occasional tweet.
