After several days of investigation, police successfully arrested William Smith, the suspect who stabbed Zheng Yong to death, and charged him with murder, robbery and assault on the night of February 28.
The 45-year-old Smith in the night of February 26, together with a number of accomplices into the 58th Street and 7th Avenue, a gambling stall robbery, a number of Chinese men then chased the robbers and confrontation in the street, including Zheng Yong, Liu with hair and several Chinese passers-by to help; Zheng Yong unfortunately was stabbed to death on the spot, Liu with hair, including at least three people were stabbed and sent to the hospital.
According to witnesses, the suspects then jumped into a white Mercedes-Benz SUV with the license plate JLH9539 and fled. Police tracked the vehicle for several days and successfully found the vehicle in Bushwick, Brooklyn on Sunday evening and arrested the suspect Smith.
Smith has been transferred to Brooklyn court, charged with murder, robbery, assault and many other charges.
Smith is said to have a long criminal record, with five arrests, most recently for DUI in 2010 and drug trafficking in 2007; he was also arrested for murder in 1996 and sentenced to five to 15 years for manslaughter and weapons possession.
