As Kenya battles its worst locust plague in decades, an agricultural company, The Bug Picture, hopes to turn the pests to other uses.
Scientists have analyzed the increased rainfall caused by warmer waters, making it easier for locust eggs to hatch, and the agricultural company The Bug Picture has decided to turn the pests into fodder by crushing the locusts into protein-rich animal feed or organic fertilizer, Reuters reported.
Local farmers say the locusts destroy crops, sometimes in such numbers that they can’t tell where the crops are and where the locusts are.
