Japanese media reported on Feb. 28 that a Japanese official said Xi’s visit to Japan will not be possible within the year even if the Epidemic subsides.
Xi was scheduled to visit Japan as a state guest in April last year, but the visit was postponed due to the outbreak of the Chinese Communist virus (New Coronavirus). Although the event was not canceled, the two countries have since stopped discussing Xi’s visit to Japan. According to the Sankei Shimbun, citing high-level Japanese sources, even if the epidemic subsides, it is still impossible to invite Xi Jinping to visit Japan as a state guest, and next year is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan.
According to the report, besides the unpredictability of when the epidemic will subside, the Chinese Communist Party‘s behavior is also the main reason that prevents Xi from visiting Japan. The Japanese side believes that this year, the Chinese Communist Party’s maritime police ships frequently invade the “territorial waters” in the waters of the Diaoyu Islands, and repeatedly tail Japanese fishing boats, coupled with the implementation of the Chinese Communist Party’s “Maritime Police Law” in February, which authorizes the Chinese maritime police to fire when law enforcement is obstructed, leading to the rise of confrontation on the Diaoyu Islands.
Moreover, Xi Jinping was invited to visit Japan as a state guest and was scheduled to meet with Japanese Emperor Tokujin, which must be done in a welcoming atmosphere for the Japanese people, but a poll released by the Japanese Cabinet Office in February showed that 77.3% of Japanese people said they had no favorable feelings toward the CCP.
In addition, in terms of human rights, the Chinese Communist Party’s implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, the arrest of Hong Kong pro-democracy activists, and the persecution of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang have been recognized as “genocide” by the U.S. and Canada, and the international community has become increasingly vocal in denouncing the CCP. Under such circumstances, if Japan invites Xi Jinping to visit Japan as a state guest, the Japanese government fears that it may be misunderstood as “Japan’s acquiescence to the CCP’s practices” and send the wrong message.
