McCarthy bets on house, vows to win back House in midterms

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

U.S. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) vowed that Republicans will win the House majority in the 2022 midterm elections, going so far as to say he would “bet his house on it.

At this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), American Conservative Union President Matt Schlapp asked McCarthy if Republicans could take back the lower chamber in the next midterm election. What are the chances of winning?

“We will take back the majority, and we’re now down to five seats.” McCarthy continued, “I’d bet my house (it would win).”

Democrats took back control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections with the so-called “blue wave” and won the House, Senate and White House in the 2020 elections.

But Republicans did not do well in the 2020 elections, adding 15 seats to the House, significantly narrowing the Democratic advantage and defeating some Democratic candidates in the Senate race.

Democrats now have only five more seats in the House than Republicans, the “weakest” House majority in modern U.S. political history. In the Senate, the Democrats and Republicans each have 50 seats, but Vice President He Jinli (Harris) has a vote to determine victory or defeat.

McCarthy half-joked, “I’d bet my private Home on it.” “It’s the smallest margin the Democrats have had in 100 years.”

McCarthy credited former President Donald Trump (R-Texas) with the Republican Party’s accomplishments along with other Republicans who gained seats, and said Trump’s campaign was what helped the GOP gain voter support.

“This is the first Time since 1994 that no incumbent Republican has lost a seat. We defeated 15 Democrats. Do you know who 15 Democrats lost to? Lost to conservative women and minority candidates.” McCarthy said.

Trump promised that he would help Republicans win back Congress in 2022 and, if appropriate, he would endorse those running in 2022 who support Make America Great Again (MAGA) and America First policies.

According to a new survey of more than 28,000 readers conducted by The Epoch Times, about 82 percent of them said they think Trump is “the current leader of the Republican Party.
