Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told The Hill, “I want us to be as united as we can be,” the U.S. media outlet National Archives reported Tuesday. I think the Republican Party needs to come together and take back the majority in the Senate. The worst thing that can happen to the Republican Party is to continue to fight among ourselves.”
Graham added that “Trump was very invested in helping the whole team win.” He also claimed that President Trump “made a ton of phone calls” and is now “trying to get the best team on the field.” Graham said he and President Trump “just talked about the 2022 midterm elections.
President Trump did not comment on the weekend meeting, leading some to question the accuracy of Graham’s version of events, especially considering that McConnell, Graham’s most important ally, is now in complete betrayal of Trump.
Based on these claims, many believe that Graham’s weekend trip was an attempt to convince President Trump to end his ongoing feud with McConnell and to end his feud with the rest of the widely despised Republican establishment.
In a scathing statement about McConnell on Feb. 16, President Trump described McConnell as a “gloomy, sullen and unsmiling political hack” and said McConnell was directly responsible for the loss of the Republican Senate majority because of his unwillingness to provide Americans with a $2,000 bailout to offset the economic devastation caused by a year-long viral Communist blockade. The former president promised to challenge establishment Republicans by endorsing a candidate who subscribes to “America First” policies.
We know that our America First agenda is a winner, not McConnell’s Beltway First or Biden‘s America Last,” President Trump said. “(America Last).” President Trump added: “Where necessary and appropriate, I will support candidates who agree with Make America Great Again (MAGA) and our America First policy. We want great, strong, thoughtful, compassionate leadership.”
President Trump made similar remarks during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s Kelly Show on Feb. 17. President Trump said, “Republicans are weak, they only hit their own people, just like McConnell, exclusively. If he spent the same amount of Time hitting Schumer and Biden, the Republican Party would be in much better shape.”
Limbaugh, the American radio legend who passed away Feb. 17, blasted Graham for not actually trying to help President Trump, but rather trying to make the outsider president act more like a “Washingtonian.
“What Graham is saying is that he’s trying to get Trump to reconcile. He’s trying to get Trump to behave according to Washington norms,” Limbaugh said, “and he’s trying to control Trump. He’s not helping Trump to overcome the enemy.”
