The BBC reports that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said its digital New Crown Pass App will go live “within a few weeks” and will show that a passenger has tested negative for New Crown virus or has been vaccinated against New Crown, and that the information shown has been officially certified and will allow passengers to enter other countries upon presentation of this certificate.
The association believes that the New Crown Pass is indispensable to restore international air travel. The focus is on restoring confidence,” said Gore, the association’s regional director of airports and external relations. Travelers must be confident that the tests they receive are credible and that they will be able to enter other countries with a negative result. Governments must also be confident that the tests travelers claim to have received are credible and meet the country’s requirements.”
The association said the pass app is modular and compatible with other versions of the digital New Crown Pass being piloted around the world. app will be available for iOS and Android and is expected to be free to download.
Singapore Airlines was the first to try out the New Crown Pass in December last year, and Etihad, Emirates, Qatar and Air New Zealand are also trying it out. The association said it is in discussion with most airlines in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt the New Crown Pass. Gore said, “We are working with a number of airlines around the world to trial the pass and to hear back from pilots. The pass will go live in March, so we hope to have the system perfected in a few weeks.”
