China’s government-business collusion and corruption at the top of large companies is comparable to that of officialdom. Last year, a high school-educated man in Hunan Province, claiming to be a journalist, sent fraudulent letters to 200 executives of listed companies at once, claiming to have their “personal secrets”. In less than 10 days, four executives dutifully transferred a total of 1.34 million (RMB, same below).

Recently, the Chengdu Shuangliu District Court disclosed the criminal verdict of the first instance of extortion of Fu Danqing, which shows that at the end of March 2020, Fu Danqing, a 31-year-old defendant living in Changsha, Hunan Province, began to collect information on executives of listed companies and drove to the post office of Yueyang Railway Station in Hunan Province on April 12 to send 200 extortion letters at one Time.

The recipients of these 200 letters were all executives of listed companies. In the letters, Fu Danqing, who only has a high school education, claimed to be a journalist and threatened to master the “private secrets” of the recipients of the letters, asking them to transfer huge sums of money to a designated account.

The verdict shows that from April 15 to 21, the executive vice president of OPPO Home and the chairman of the board of directors of Tai Lin Biology, Vast Special Material and Rima Industry received the extortion letter and quickly transferred 335,000 yuan to Fu Danqing as requested in the letter, totaling 1.34 million yuan. Two of them completed the transfer on the same day they received the letter.

On April 23, six days after receiving the extortion letter, the chairman of the board of directors of Chengdu Pilot reported the case to the police. 29, Fu Danqing was criminally detained by the Shuangliu District Branch of the Chengdu Public Security Bureau.

Finally, the Chengdu Shuangliu District Court sentenced Fu Danqing to 10 years and 6 months in prison for extortion and refunded 335,000 to each of the four victims.
