President Biden‘s nomination of Neera Tanden as White House budget director may be difficult for the Senate nomination hearing.
The White House Budget Office (OMB) director nominated by President Biden, Neera Tanden, may be stuck in the Senate, and calls for a replacement are rising; Biden has been in office for more than a month, and only six of the 15 Cabinet members have been confirmed by the Senate, lagging behind several former presidents.
The Democratic Party’s West Virginia U.S. Senator Manchin (Joe Manchin) on the 19th indicated that he would vote against the nomination case, which is tantamount to blocking Tanton.
Sources said that the candidates who may replace Tanton include Gene Sperling, who twice served as chairman of the White House National Economic Council (NEC), or Ann O’Leary, who served as chief of staff to California Governor Newsom (Gavin Newsom).
Spurlin has worked in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, and is a progressive intellectual with close ties to Biden’s senior economic advisers.
Biden’s inner circle believes that if Spurgeon is nominated, it will be easy to pass, but nominating him would go against Biden’s promise of a diverse cabinet; Tanton is a woman of Indian descent and could have become the second Asian female cabinet member in addition to Vice President He Jinli.
A former Obama administration official said, “It’s hard not to let women lead OMB because (Biden) President promised a balanced cabinet.”
“I have shared a common understanding with Niira for more than 20 years and have never ceased to admire her policy expertise, work ethic and commitment to helping our countrymen.” Spurlin applauded Biden’s nomination of Tanton as OMB director: “She is fully qualified to lead OMB, and I have always supported her appointment 100 percent.”
O’Reilly is a Democratic policy adviser with close ties to Biden’s top staff, including White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, and has been active in Clinton’s political world for many years, with a wealth of experience.
O’Reilly served in the Clinton White House and was the chief of staff administration for Hillary Clinton when she was a senator and an adviser to Hillary when she ran for president in 2016; in 2016, the same adviser served as Hillary’s adviser and current White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
O’Reilly’s policies are widely respected by the Democratic Party, but her nomination case is overshadowed by Newsom’s anti-Epidemic misconduct.
Biden took office a month ago, only six of the Cabinet was passed by the Senate, respectively, the Secretary of State, Defense, Treasury, Transportation, Veterans and Homeland Security, and nine other Cabinet chief nominees to be approved by the Senate.
A former Biden aide, who requested anonymity, said, “Moving forward after the fact, with impeachment behind us, the nominees need to be in place, from the health secretary who fought the epidemic to the other chiefs, the country needs to recover and get back to work.”
Biden’s cabinet nomination confirmation process dragged on longer than previous presidents, with Obama confirming 14 cabinet members, Bush Jr. 11 and Trump eight within 30 days of taking office.
