Beijing Xicheng District officials released a notice on the morning of February 23, 2021 at 8:15 a.m., Beijing De Feng restaurant (No. 1 West Velvet Hutong) house burst into flames. The scene is now under control and rescue is underway.
A video taken by witnesses was uploaded to Twitter, showing the scene where a courtyard was blown down, treacherously surrounded by fences that collapsed inwards, with minimal damage to the surrounding homes. There are people cleaning up the scene as debris and bricks litter the ground. Rescuers carried a middle-aged man out of the rubble. The person who took the video said, “Another person was found, (a total of) two people were found, I don’t know if they are alive or dead.”
A Voice of Hope reporter searched Google Maps and found that No. 1 West Velvet Hutong in Beijing’s Xicheng District is only 650 meters from Zhongnanhai Xinhua Gate, a two-minute drive and an eight-minute walk. An explosion at a location close to Zhongnanhai and Tiananmen can be considered quite sensitive at a Time when Beijing is about to hold its two sessions.
