A sudden surge of cases in Maharashtra and Kerala forced authorities to impose tougher restrictions, with thousands of judicial police deployed in Mumbai to enforce mandatory mask orders and curfews in some cities on Monday.
The Indian Institute of Medical Sciences said that up to 240 variants of the Chinese Communist virus have been identified in the country.
