FAA tracks 737 MAX airliners worldwide with satellite data

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Friday (19) that it reached an agreement with air traffic monitoring company Aireon, which will provide ADS-B satellite data to track all Boeing 737 MAX passenger aircraft worldwide.

The FAA said the system will flag data deviations within a specific range during the 737 MAX’s flight and automatically notify engineers and inspectors when anomalies are detected, allowing them to analyze the causes of accidents through early forecasts. The FAA can monitor the 737 MAX through situational awareness displays, and can access text reports and review single events through the system, as well as find and track data with emergency codes, said Capezzuto.

In the five months between October 2018 and March 2019, two air crashes involving 737 MAX aircraft killed 346 people on Lion Air Indonesia and Ethiopian Airlines.
