The H-E-B grocery store in Texas has been praised for its good deed of giving people free goods during the power outage, and adding a warmth to the disaster. The picture shows local residents lining up outside the store on the 19th, waiting to shop inside.
He and his wife quickly grabbed the goods and rushed to the checkout line, but when they reached the cashier, the clerk just waved them onward, thanked them for coming and asked them to go Home and be safe, and the customer carts in front of them were piled with diapers, milk and other supplies, which were also free.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Hannes said, “This country has been through a lot in the last year and a half, right? Since last March, I guess, it really has. There’s been a lot of disagreements, a lot of things going on, and on top of that, here in Texas, we’re having this weather…they’re not ready.” Things don’t always go so badly, however, and the grocery store story is a perfect example of that.
Hannes said he could see that others who went to the H-E-B grocery store were also moved, and in the midst of the chaos that day, Hannes and another man helped an elderly woman push a slippery shopping cart, recalling, “Everyone started helping each other. “
Hannes said he called the H-E-B grocery store on the 19th to ask if they had a charity he would like to donate what he could afford to pass on the grocery store’s goodwill.
Other people also shared their gratitude, with Shelby Lasker telling local media outlet Austin American-Statesman that she was in a hurry to buy supplies when the power went out, saying, “I think I think they (H-E-B grocery stores) can see how troubled people are.”
The situation in Texas is still quite serious, Hannes said the power outage in the next day there was no running water available, although it has now been restored, but the storm severely damaged public facilities, most areas of Texas is still recommended to boil water before drinking.
