Far-Left New Mexico Governor Uses Taxpayer Money to Pay for Groceries, Whiskey and Tequila

U.S. media outlet The Gateway Pundit reported Sunday that the far-left governor of New Mexico, a female Democrat named Grisham, was recently caught using taxpayer money to pay for groceries, whiskey and tequila.

In March 2020, Michelle Grisham (D) ordered New Mexico residents to stay Home under the pretext of the threat of the Chinese Communist virus, which at the Time ranked the state 39th out of 50 states in terms of the number of cases. But Grisham, after blocking off the general population of New Mexico, called the most desired jewelry store herself and ordered jewelry. Of course, she was able to do so because she is the Democratic governor.

Fox News reports that Gleason detailed in a report this week how her office spent from a taxpayer-supported expense fund, and the governor is currently defending herself.

Records show Gov. Gleason spent nearly $13,500 on items such as groceries, dry cleaning and liquor over a six-month period in 2020, according to the Sante Fe New Mexican.

Gleason held in-person staff meetings at the governor’s residence while still urging the public to stay off the string and to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Tripp Stelnicki, a spokesman for Gleason, told The Associated Press that about half of the $13,500 spent during those meetings went toward Food for members of the governor’s cabinet and staff. Alcohol spending included, among other things, five bottles of tequila, two bottles of vodka, two bottles of Merlot and single bottles of whiskey and gin purchased in September, costing more than $200.

New Mexico Republicans are outraged by this misuse of taxpayer cash by the Democratic governor.

“This is not where tax dollars should be spent,” New Mexico House Minority Leader Jim Townsend, a Republican, told The Mexican, “To use their tax dollars to buy Wagyu beef at a time when people across the state are suffering is certainly upsetting to a lot of people. That’s not where tax dollars should be spent.”

Gleason argued that she did not purchase the items herself, but that they were purchased by a “woman who works here (a rock star).

According to The New Mexican, a state law was enacted in 2019 that set new limits on the use of the governor’s discretionary funds, but such expenditures came up anyway. At the time, the law was signed by Gleason’s predecessor, Susana Martinez, a Republican whose office has also been criticized for how it spends tax dollars.
