America’s political slickers! Just don’t mention Trump Republican leaders dodge simple questions from hosts

The National Archives reports that Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) shied away from talking about President Trump when asked who would lead the Republican Party.

McCarthy was asked a simple question: Who will lead the Republican Party? He spent most of the interview avoiding the question.

On Fox host Jeanine Pirro’s “JusticeWith JudgeJeanine,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was asked if the Republican Party was having an “identity crisis” and who would lead the party going forward. Perhaps logically, as the vast majority of Republicans hope, President Trump will continue to lead the party, but instead of answering, McCarthy demurred, talking about Abraham Lincoln and using some of the former president’s talking points to avoid the question altogether.

Moderator Pirro asked, “Is the Republican Party, is it facing an identity crisis, and who are they? Who’s going to lead us out of this mess?” . Instead of answering, McCarthy launched into a lengthy rant about the history of the Republican Party.

“The Republican Party has always been a party of ideas, and what you have to understand is that Abraham Lincoln was our first president, and he believed in the specialness of our country,” McCarthy said.” No other nation has been as committed to the idea of freedom and to the idea that we are all equal as we are.”

McCarthy then seemed to parrot President Trump: “We will continue to listen to the forgotten people, and in that, we are the party of the hard-working American taxpayer.”

Pirro seemed frustrated by McCarthy’s avoidance of her question, asking again, “Who’s going to lead this fight?” , “The question is, how do we get back to the same level?” Instead of answering the question, McCarthy again addressed Joe Biden.

“He’s reversing what President Trump and the Republicans can do,” McCarthy said, “and he’s reversing course.” We can’t just sit back and let him do that.”

Pirro isn’t the only one frustrated with McCarthy’s refusal to identify President Trump as the leader of the Republican Party.

“Kevin McCarthy. I saw you on Fox tonight.” Civil rights attorney and talk show host Leo Terrell wrote, “You were asked who would lead the Republican Party. You refused to answer the question.”

“I will answer that question for you. Our leader is President Trump,” he wrote, “Remember his name!”

Perhaps tellingly, McCarthy only uploaded a short 50-second clip of the Pirro interview on social media. The clip does not include his apparent evasion of her questions.

McCarthy declined to name President Trump as the spiritual leader of the Republican Party, as the former president has pledged to support “America First” candidates and challenge establishment Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections.
It appears McCarthy will use his diminished influence over the House and Republican donors to counter President Trump’s plan to remake the Republican Party in the image of America First.
