On Feb. 22, Xie Yangyi, a well-known mainland human rights lawyer, tweeted a video for Chang Wei Ping’s lawyer. In the video he posted, Xie Yangyi faced the camera and seriously questioned the Baoji Public Security Bureau, “Why did you torture Chang Wei Ping’s lawyer? Don’t you know that what you are doing is a serious crime?”
According to Amnesty International, on October 22, lawyer Chang Weiping was taken away by the Baoji City Police. He is currently under “residential surveillance” on suspicion of “inciting subversion of state power. He is being held in custody and is not allowed to communicate with the outside world.
Six days before his arrest, Chang Wei-ping posted a video on Youtube about his experience of torture during his detention in January 2020. Chang mentioned that police tied him to a torture device known as a “tiger bench” 24 hours a day and interrogated him 16 times. He also stated that he was under close surveillance after his release.
