Information on Cruz flight to Cancun leaked, United Airlines investigating

United Airlines has confirmed that it is investigating a breach of information on a flight by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to Cancun, Mexico.

According to The Hill, United said in a statement that “sharing customers’ personal information violates United’s policy and we are investigating the incident.” The Epoch Times has sent a request to the airline to confirm the statement.

According to Politico, tens of thousands of employees at United typically have access to flight data, but leaks of flight information have been rare in the past. Politico is the first to report that United is conducting an internal investigation, a United executive said, adding that if the investigation uncovers employees who leaked customer information, they could be fired with no other options.

Cruz took his two daughters on a vacation to Cancun, Mexico, last weekend while Texas was hit by a snowstorm, which was later disclosed by the media. Cruz has publicly apologized and said the trip was “clearly a mistake. Since Feb. 11, record low temperatures and severe snowfall have left millions of Texans without power and water.

However, the Texas disaster last week, in addition to the governor seeking presidential approval for an emergency declaration, the senator had little official role in the emergency effort.

Prior to Cruz’s return, Edward Russell, a reporter for leading travel media SKIFT, exposed Cruz’s departure Time from Cancun to Houston, citing a United source.

“After speaking with a United source (and learning) that Senator Ted Cruz had rebooked a flight from Cancun back to Houston this afternoon around 6 a.m. this morning (Thursday). He was scheduled to return on Saturday.” Russell wrote.

Cruz publicly responded to media criticism of his flight to Cancun, Mexico, on Feb. 18, saying in a statement, “School was canceled this week and our girls (ages 10 and 12) asked to go on a trip with their friends. Trying to be a good dad, I flew with the girls last night (to Cancun) and flew back this afternoon.”

He added, “My staff and I have been in communication with state and local leaders to understand the realities of what is happening in Texas.” He referred to the power outage in Texas, and the power outages in some areas.

Cruz said his Family is also without power and heat, and that Texans are “hoping for power back, water back, and warm homes.

Cruz traveled to Cancun with his children and wife on the evening of Feb. 17, then flew back to Texas on an afternoon flight on the 18th. The 50-year-old Republican told the media on his return to Houston that the trip to Cancun “was clearly a mistake. If I were starting over, I wouldn’t do it.”

Cruz said he had planned to stay in Cancun with his children over the weekend, but had second thoughts “almost as soon as I got on the plane (and took off)” and was ready to fly back to Texas as soon as possible.
