Montana lawmakers are discussing a bill that would classify the anarcho-communist group Antifa as a homegrown terrorist organization.
Over the past several years, the Antifa network and ideologically similar groups have organized and carried out violent street protests and riots in Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, Olympia and several other cities.
Montana Rep. Braxton Mitchell, a Republican who represents Columbia Falls, told the Montana House Judiciary Committee at a hearing Tuesday (Feb. 16) that the bill was under consideration.
He said the move would “send a message that we, as a state, will not tolerate organizations like this coming into our state,” according to The Associated Press.
Opponents of the bill say they should oppose it if it does not categorize other groups accused of violence, including those involved in the January break-in at the Capitol.
Some officials, including FBI Director Chris Wray, have said that Antifa is more of an ideology than a group. He described the Antifa movement as a decentralized movement.
However, Andy Ngo, an independent journalist who has been observing and documenting the activities of Antifa and other Black Bloc groups, says it is “not just an ideology, a thought process,” but “also a movement” and appears to be well organized.
Antifa is short for “anti-fascist. But Ngo points out that “fascism” here does not necessarily mean Nazis or white supremacists. He added that the organization often refers to people as fascists who “oppose the far-left political agenda. According to Engo, the United States itself is defined as “fascist” by most Antifa members.
Engo added that the “Black Swarm” attacks in Portland were indiscriminate and did not target only so-called white supremacists.
What I witnessed in my hometown of Portland, the center of the Antifa movement in the United States, is that they are committing indiscriminate acts of violence, not only against property, but against people,” he said. They have been escalating and escalating.”
Ngo noted that Antifa’s ultimate goal is to abolish democratic states around the world and establish anarchist communist communes.
“They believe they can organize society without a government,” he said. Believers usually believe that no one should own private property.
Engo elaborated further on this view in an effort to dispel the notion that far-left groups will stop rioting and demonstrating after President Joe Biden‘s inauguration.
For example, they rioted in Portland on Nov. 4,” he said. Since then, there have been a dozen riots in Portland and Seattle.” “Significantly, on the day of Biden’s inauguration, they actually destroyed the headquarters of the Democratic Party in Oregon. There were also some riots in Seattle.”
After receiving repeated death threats from “Antifa” extremists, Andy Engo, a well-known journalist and author, said on Jan. 23 that he had to flee the United States. He has now moved to London, England.
