After the exposure of Xi Minze’s personal information, Niu Tengyu, the administrator of the “Vulgar Wiki” website, was framed as the main culprit and sentenced to 14 years, while the rest of the 23 website operators and members were also sentenced. The “Vulgar Wiki” case continues to grow, with the political and legal committee of Maoming City, Guangdong Province, intervening openly and threatening the defense lawyers of the defendants. The lawyers believe that the case has received attention from overseas public opinion, unsettling the officials involved and attempting to prevent the truth from coming out by threatening them. The case involved the leaking of personal information about Xi’s daughter and brother-in-law, implicating 24 young Internet users, some of whom received heavy prison sentences.
Immediately after our Thursday (18) exclusive exposé of the public security officials in Maoming City, Guangdong Province, who had concocted a yin-yang document to frame Niu Tengyu, the former operations and maintenance technician of “Vulgar Wiki,” as the “main culprit,” the Maoming City Political and Legal Committee, through the local judicial bureau, met with Niu Tengyu on Friday afternoon (19) to discuss the case. On Friday (19) afternoon, the Maoming Political and Legal Committee, through the local judicial bureau, met with Niu Tengyu’s first instance defender, Foshan, Guangdong lawyer Tian Haibo, to warn him.
We tried to contact Tian Haibo, but when he identified himself as a reporter, he said he couldn’t hear clearly and hung up.
Xiao Yanrui, the founder of Vulgar Wiki, who is currently in Japan, provided us with a conversation he had with Tian Haibo after the latter was interviewed, confirming that officials are taking suppressive actions.
Xiao Yanrui: Hello! Lawyer Tian? This is Xiao Yanrui, I think I heard that someone is looking for you today?
Tian Haibo: Yes, yes.
Xiao Yanrui: Is it the Justice Bureau in Foshan?
Tian Haibo: Yes, yes, I have a problem, saying that you should have a plea of not guilty, that is, to ask him for instructions. The case is still very influential, and the higher authorities are concerned about it. The foreign media has reported a lot of content, which has caused a great social impact and affected the country. Originally I thought this case is an ordinary criminal case, why is it so famous now? Not only me, but also all the lawyers who represented this case were interviewed, which I have never encountered in my years of practice.
Tian Haibo also told Niu Tengyu’s mother and Beijing lawyer Huang Hanzhong, the second trial defender, about the details of the interview. Niu Tengyu’s mother told the station that officials from the Justice Bureau criticized Tian Haibo for his unstable political stance and for defending Niu Tengyu’s innocence; the officials said Tian should have reported to the Justice Bureau.
Niu Tengyu’s mother said: “I’m sorry, I know Tengyu is an unjust case, but the Judicial Bureau asked me (Tian Haibo) for an interview this afternoon, and then said that the Maoming Political and Legal Committee called there, saying that I should not do the defense of innocence, the wrong political position; he (Judicial Bureau) said, “Why did you do the defense of innocence and did not tell us in advance? “? Tian said, “I haven’t seen any lawyer in China who has to tell us in advance about the not guilty plea, and the judicial bureau told him, “This is a political issue, you have to tell us in advance! They were so unreasonable that they threatened to stop him from representing us”.
Niu Tengyu’s mother believes that the parties in Maoming are working together to fabricate the case, and after the media exposure, they are trying to use high-handed tactics to suppress the lawyers and pressure the Parents, trying to block out the truth.
Niu Tengyu’s mother said: I think they (Maoming authorities) are still too righteous, because we are too wronged, they are harboring evil intentions, they know they have made a shocking unjust case, and they don’t want everyone to know, they are still covering it up and keep putting pressure on us.
According to our correspondent, one of Niu Tengyu’s lawyers for the second trial, Beijing rights lawyer Huang Hanzhong, was forced to withdraw from representing him on Wednesday (17).
Bao Longjun, another of Niu Tengyu’s second trial lawyers, believes that the actions of the Guangdong Maoming parties to silence the Family and pressure the lawyers are evidence that they are the perpetrators of the wrongful death case.
The lawyer should defend the legitimate rights and interests of the parties, according to the facts and the law, not the judicial department should be your request to do, we are not guilty of defense to your judicial department to report to the approval of ah, the judicial department requirements, that is artificial interference with the law. The case is a case that is manufactured by somehow, the whole Maoming Public Prosecutor, the law, the Political and Legal Committee, they are really in crime, so they are panicking, to seal the mouth of people. What we are doing now is also to uncover this black lid, called it exposed in the sun.
Bao Longjun also revealed that the lawyers of the second trial will soon go south to Maoming, requesting the Maoming Central Court to hold a public hearing of the second trial and to sue the parties who tortured confessions and concocted yin-yang documents during the whole case.
We have called Zhang Shuming, the judge of the second trial in Maoming, Guangdong, several times, but he refused to answer the phone.
Niu Tengyu’s appeal shows that he was tortured while detained in a designated prison residence in Foshan City, but the prosecution denies that torture was used to extract confessions.
In late 2020, a Maonan court in Maoming, Guangdong, sentenced Niu Tengyu to 14 years in prison, and Niu Tengyu’s handwritten appeal disclosed that he was tortured to extract a confession, which Maoming’s public prosecutor denied. (Courtesy of Niu Tengyu’s friends / date of filming unknown)
Recently, Xiao Yanrui, the founder of “Vicious Wiki” and “Zhinawiki,” testified publicly that Niu Tengyu and others who were sentenced had nothing to do with the “Xi Minze personal information exposure incident. “The incident is unrelated. He also pointed out on Thursday that Guangdong’s Maoming Public Prosecutor’s Office and Law Enforcement Bureau worked together to create the shady documents that framed Niu Tengyu as the “main culprit” and that Li Chunsheng, the head of Guangdong’s Public Security Bureau, was also questioned as the person behind the incident.
