The world’s first flying car, the Transition, developed by Terrafugia, has officially received clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to take to the skies.
The world’s first flying car, the Transition, developed by Terrafugia, has been officially licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This means that in the near future, this kind of car will appear in the skies above our cities like a Science Fiction movie.
According to media reports, the FAA has officially granted Trafalgar a certificate of airworthiness for the Transition after testing the car to meet the airworthiness standards of the special Light Sport Aircraft (LSA).

Kevin Colburn, Vice President and General Manager of the company, praised the technical team for their achievements. He said the company had survived a very challenging year for the CCP virus (New Coronavirus) pandemic. But it’s heartening to see that even during the pandemic, the company didn’t slow down.
Our team did everything possible during this Time to improve quality systems, complete improvements to key parts of the design, and complete 80 days of flight testing, while the company delivered 150 technical documents and ultimately passed FAA clearance,” he said.
After years of optimization and improvement, the latest generation of this small flying car developed by Trafigura now has foldable wings that unfold to about 8.22 meters and can easily be parked in a normal-sized garage after retraction.

The Transition is a small car that uses traditional gasoline energy and is suitable for both air and land use. The maximum speed is 160 km/h, the maximum altitude is 3,048 meters, and the air range is 640 km on full fuel.
In addition to the basic configuration of the aircraft and the whole aircraft parachute, it has a series of automotive safety features, such as airbags, pre-retractable seat belts, collision collapse zones, etc.
The company promises to continue optimizing the piloting portion of the aircraft’s design to enable amphibious flight in the sky and on local roads by 2022. However, those who drive the car will need both a regular car license and a pilot’s license.
Travegia was founded in the United States in 2006, originally by five students from MIT. They are dedicated to developing flying cars to solve the problem of traffic congestion and have been active in this field for many years.
